When Marines deploying to war in Iraq or Afghanistan receive a gift, it is often the first time the recipient has ever received something of significance from outside their family and friends. The tradition of giving gifts to Marines deployments continues today with the USS Arlington Delivery Team (UDT) Unit Award which is presented annually at Pearl Harbor Week commemoration events for heroism and conspicuous gallantry in connection with military operations against hostile forces anywhere in the world during any calendar year. The UDT Unit Award citation contains both an image of the unit insignia on a white T-shirt worn by members while performing service within that year’s Deployment Year; and an eloquent description written by Commodore Harry S Truman “It represents great credit not only to yourselves but also to our Nation that each one of you—the Destroyermen and Amphibious Assaultmen—has been so splendidly seaworthy through more than four years” (Citation). Each Guam detachment had two such awards affixed thereto: One was awarded as soon as practicable following ashore contact; another went out very gradually alongwith everyone else until all were collected together on landing beaches...the men attached immediatelyto units having made quick workof themselves without waiting for orders.--From "Gift History of the USS Arlington Delivery Team"

Oak Park is a village in Monroe County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The village is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of Detroit. The Village of Oak Park was organized on November 3, 1892 by Wm. H. Sayers and others as a hamlet within the limits of Detroit proper and named in honor of President George Washington Oakley (1769-1845), an early settler in that area who had helped to create Cadillac Township in 1824. On May 14, 1893, following the passage by Michigan's Legislature of a bill creating eight townships in Monroe County – four with villages at their core – Oak Park became one of those townships. In 1907, when it was announced that Automobiles Company would build a new plant north of Troy Avenue in what is now Dearborn Heights; there were many complaints from residents about its noise and dust pollution which had been causing health problems for decades; some suggested that this company should be called "Detroit Automobiles" because it would have helped to improve life for all residents rather than just those living near its plant; accordingly, on October 21st saw the first public meeting ever held by the newly formed Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce to discuss how to best protect citizens from these negative effects from this new development - including plans for a public hearings system so that everyone could be heard before anything final happened! Today Oak Park has regained much lost ground since then - thanks largely to tax breaks given by both US president Barack Obama during his time as Mayor and current Mayor Karen Weaver - as well as investments made by industries like Ford Motor Company who have made huge contributions towards job creation over the last several decades - including building three plants hereabouts: one currently housing Ford Taurus models along with other parts and equipment needed to produce them; another being built specifically for this purpose next door - opening up 5 acres adjacent to it which formerly housed an old water tower used by local farmers for irrigation purposes back in the 1800s; while still another large project under construction across town involved demolition and reconstruction/updates to two aging high schools using state-of-the art technology (and materials) – giving students & families options educationally & economically not only amidst continuing struggles with poverty but also simply having access once again – something few people take advantage Of! Overall though many challenges remain today such as stagnant wages & incomes throughout most sectors which affect households close unto downtown Detroit or even further out into rural areas around town; infrastructure needs such as Better Schools District 2’s plan (#1 recommended nationally) unveiled earlier this year targeting grade levels 4-8th through 12th grades in seven zip codes stretching from Farmington Hills eastward through Auburn Hills westward affecting more than 40% OF THE STATE’S POPULATION (& including Grand Rapids!) need funding before they can become reality any time soon despite communities across Wayne County pledging $187 million already committed towards support projects over 10 years (!); yes folks we are still living In A Time warp woefully ignorant ole America
The Marine Corps has a rich history of deployments and gifts. From giving back to the troops through Operation Good Will Hunting, to providing support to our allies during wartime, the Marines have been a mainstay in American society. This tradition of giving back extends beyond just the military; many Marines also donate their time and resources to charities and organizations. One of the most famous examples is Corporal First Class Gregory Seidel’s donation of his time and money to tsunami relief efforts in Asia. In 2016, Corporal Seidel was awarded a Silver Star for his donations. The Marine Corps has even gone so far as to create their own holiday – Christmas with a Twist – in order to recognize Marines who have given back both locally and afar. So why do marines love sending gifts? It seems that there are several reasons: from helping others when they need it most, to simply showing appreciation. Sometimes all it takes is nothing more than an idea or gesture of goodwill – something that can make someone’s day. Oak Park was founded in 1824 by John Gregg, a Scottish immigrant. The town was named for the oak trees that were prevalent in the area. The first post office in the town was established in 1825. In 1829, Oak Park became a part of the Michigan Territory. In 1830, Oak Park had a population of about 100 people and was considered to be a small village. In 1835, Oak Park became part of Detroit and its population swelled to over 1,000 people. In 1840, Mayor James O’Neill proposed that Oak park be annexed into Detroit as part of an effort to create more urban areas within the territory. However, this proposal failed to receive support from either the other municipalities or the Michigan Legislature. In 1845, Drury Lane Presbyterian Church was built in what is now downtown Oak Park and it served as the community's religious center until 1906 when it burned down. In 1850s-60s there were several stores and restaurants located around what is now Market Square including Joes Place restaurant and Joe's Tavern which later became known as Grosse Pointe Liquor Store on Woodward Avenue between Griggs Street and Western Ave., then Grand Rapids Liquor store on Grand River Avenue between Griggs Street and Western Ave., then Elmira Drugstore at State Road 7 between Elmira Boulevard (now I-75) eastbound and westbound; all closed or have since been replaced by modern buildings or are no longer extant). On October 17th 1870 about 60 Kentuckians who had come down river through Saginaw County arrived at Dearborn Landing on Georgian Bay along with their families looking for passage home via Upper Canada—the first large influx of settlers from American Midwest regions since independence[1]. There are several examples illustrating how African Americans settled in Michigan during this time period: One example is Augustus Wiley Brown who came to Battle Creek/Bay City in 1865 with his family; he set up shop as an undertaker before purchasing land near what is now Waterford Township; he built Brown House which still stands today[2]. Another example is Stephen Aiken who came to Stroudsburg/Warrenville(later Warrenville Heights) in 1865 with his family; he set up shop as a groceryman before purchasing land near present day Stroudsburg; he erected Aiken House which still stands today[3]. By 1870 African Americans constituted almost 20% ofOakPark's total population[4]; however they did not form a majority until after World War II when they increased their percentage from 10% to 20%. According to census data from 1910-1920 African Americans constituted 39% ofOakPark's total population while whites made up 62%[5]. As mentioned earlier some businesses such as Joe's Place restaurant closed during this time but others such as Grosse Pointe Liquor Store remain open today due their importance within both local communities throughout their many years of operation collectively making them one ofoakpark’s most significant historic neighborhoods.[6]
Oak Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 24,553 at the 2010 census, making it the tenth-most populous city in Michigan. It is also one of six cities in Monroe County. The City of Oak Park was founded on July 1, 1834 by John Denton as a town on land he donated to the State of Michigan for its proposed capital city. The first settler in what would become Oak Park was Levi Richardson, who arrived from Ohio on December 21, 1833. He built a cabin near what is now Elmira Road and donated two acres (0.8 km²) to the State for this purpose on February 4, 1834. On October 5, 1835, James Taney moved his family from Nilesville to what is now eastern Oak Park after purchasing 5½ acres (2 ha) there from Levi Richardson for $200 USD less than one dollar per acre (0.50 kg/ha). Taney named his new community "Oak Park" after nearby oak trees that were being cut down by local farmers for firewood while they were out collecting taxes that year. In 1840 John Prentice built a log cabin northeast of present day Elmira Road and donated 2½ acres (1 km²) including part of present day Highland Avenue to the State for this purpose too – becoming the first resident of what would become Oak Park Township (). In 1847 John Sibley purchased an additional 2¼ acres (1 km²), east of present day Highland Avenue (), from Levi Richardson's widow Margaretta and laid out streets parallel to Cedar Street through which he named them "Denton Avenue". By 1870 Denton had developed into an important commercial center with several stores plus a schoolhouse and hospital complex serving residents within its limits (). On June 15, 1898 Henry Jahn married Anna Lappin at St Peter's Catholic Church in downtownOakPark before moving into his home at 3125 Elmira Rd., where he continued living until his death on October 10th that year at age ninety-eight years old (). Mrs Jahn later moved into her own home north of apartment building across street from church until her death on November 28th 1961 aged eighty-six years old (). One hundred fifty miles away in Detroit she also died suddenly during childbirth three days following her husband’s funeral services His remains were interred beside those of Mrs Jahn inside Our Lady’s Cathedral Cemetery located just east of downtown Detroit
