Novi is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2000 census. It is the second most populous community within Washtenaw County after Detroit. The town was founded on November 1, 1837 by John Davenport and his wife Eliza Davenport. The name of the original settlement was North Dumas Township (now part of Novi). On February 17, 1838, Novi became a village when it had a total population of seven people. On May 9, 1840, Novi became a town when it had a total population of twenty-five people. On September 8, 1850, the first post office in Novi opened with two employees. The first mail route ran through Decatur and Consumersville to reach Novi from Lansing via Utica Road. This route served as the backbone of today's Interstate 75 until it was abandoned in 1957 due to progress made on I-75 north from Lansing to Dearborn Heights and then east to Traverse City. In 1858–59 Saginaw Township residents petitioned for township status with no success; however they did manage to get an act passed granting township status on November 1st that same year which included responsibility for water rights and other related issues In 1861–62 Wabash Railroad extended its tracks northwest from Grand Rapids into what is now part of Novi; this allowed for transportation of goods larger than could be carried in wagons or carriageable items by railroads at that time The railway company also built a station at present-day corner of Grosse Pointe Boulevard and Indiana Avenue in downtown Novi so passengers could easily use their carriages for shopping trips or visits to nearby villages like Hollandale or Royal Oak In 1865–66 the Michigan Central Railway completed its main line between Flint and Chicago via Nowhere Junction; this increased traffic along I-75 as well as making possible more large shipments such as coal In 1886 there were only five businesses in town according to one report but by 1890 there were over ninety businesses including several hotels/motels along Grosse Pointe Boulevard . By 1900 there were over one hundred businesses depending on definitions used . By 1910 there were over two thousand businesses according to another report . The first naval deployment was in 1497 when England sent a small fleet to Spanish waters in order to help them during the War of Jenkins Ear. The Fleet was led by Admiral Lord Martin Frobisher and resulted in a victory for English forces. The tradition of giving Naval Gift History began shortly after this event with Admiral Sir John Hawkins sending a large shipment of wine, clothing, and other items back home to his mother following his successful expedition against Spanish treasure fleets off Jamaica in 1609-10. Gift giving continued to grow throughout the seventeenth century as war became more common and warships became larger. In 1650, HMS Discovery was sent on an exploration mission into Spanish Caribbean islands in order to find new trade routes. The gifts that were given during this voyage include sugar cane, bananas, cocoa beans, tobacco seeds, and slaves. Novi is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,032 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. Novi was founded in 1836 by John Haines and his family as a post office called "Newburgh". The name was changed to Novi in 1882 after being bought by the Novick family. The first store in Novi opened in 1886. The town became an incorporated village on December 15, 1903. On February 17, 1907, it became a city with a population of 27,000 people. On November 3, 2013, the city lost its charter and merged with neighboring Dearborn into one municipality with a total population of 72,744 residents. The history of Novi begins with John Haines who came to this area from Newburgh (now South Bend) Indiana in 1836 seeking new land for himself and his family to settle down on after years of traveling throughout the Great Lakes region looking for land that would offer him opportunity for farming and trade opportunities as well as mineral riches he could refine into valuable products such as flour or other goods for export back home. With little success finding any good local farmland available to them he settled down near what is now known as Novi Township on Black Creek which runs through his property today In 1882 when he bought it from Jens Nielsen the name change happened due to some confusion caused by mail sent from Sweden incorrectly believing that "Novik" meant "new farmstead" not "village". Even though they had no idea where this place actually located they chose to call it "Novi" because according to them it sounded more like their home state of Indiana than anything else around at that time They were correct about course; subsequent research has shown that this indeed was their true home state although they never lived there again until moving permanently here many years later In 1902 when Decatur Avenue was created following approval by then Mayor Charles Worthy (later Michigan Governor) via ordinance No 8059 it connected just east of present day Novik Road running north-south through central township making it possible for businesses within walking distance such as grocery stores and dry goods stores etc., all along Decatur Ave including most notably Dyers Pharmacy which still stands today across from what is now known as KFC and Pizza Place before eventually reaching present day North Main Street This designation helped spur further development here with many new businesses opening up including JanSport who built their current building south side of town originally just west of present day North Main Street before eventually expanding into much larger facilities all over downtown Dearborn Heights starting up back then right next door across Broadview Rd from our old department store also now known as Sears plaza which remains one of Dearborn's largest commercial districts thank goodness! All these various businesses brought jobs and wealth directly into your community making sure everyone felt included regardless if you had property or not! To top things off several high profile resident entrepreneurs soon moved here too such as entrepreneur/ inventor Charles Cowles who invented freeze dried foods shortly after moving here while also starting his own ice cream company called Cowles Creamery & Cafe; Drinker David Sievers whose drugs were featured prominently on M*A*S*H during its early days until finally leaving for good in 1984 Corporate America took over forever thanks largely to those pesky Japanese companies manufacturing exports here during World War II! Not only did we have our share but so too did some major manufacturers such as Ford Motor Company who manufactured cars HERE adjacent to our plant before production stopped completely at war’s end Some folks might say we got lucky since there wasn’t any real fighting going on nearby while others would argue that without those factories producing vital wartime material our economy would have gone totally haywire! In recent years however things are heating up once again !! Novi, Michigan was founded in 1837 as a small farming community near the current city of Detroit. The town grew rapidly in the 1840s, thanks to its proximity to the new Detroit-Lansing Railroad. By 1860, Novi had over 1,000 residents and was home to a two-story school and a Baptist church. In 1865, Novi became the seat of Macomb County. By 1870, Novi had become an important commercial center with stores and businesses such as The New York Times Newspaper Company and The Ford Motor Company. In 1872, local officials established a government hospital in the town which served as the county courthouse until it burned down in 1951. Today, part of the original village remains within Novi while most of the rest of downtown has been developed into a mixed-use area including several high-rise buildings that are among Michigan's tallest structures.
