There has been a military gift history in Novi, Michigan for over 100 years. The first place the United States Army stationed troops in Novi was on orders of General George Washington. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne and his brigade moved from Fort Dearborn to establish a base at what is now known as University Avenue. The army garrisoned here until 1832 when they were transferred to Camp Marshall near present-day Novi. The next year, the U.S. Congress passed an act giving the army land at Harbor Springs in Monroe County and authorizing the donation of cannons, ammunition, horses and other supplies to be used by the government against Indian nations. The fortifications built at Harbor Springs were designed by Major John Silliman with assistance from Captain Isaac Brockman of Detroit’s artillery department. In 1835, Governor John Richardson signed an act establishing Fort Michilimackinac as part of the Department of Michigan Territory under President Jackson’s administration. On July 1, 1836, Fort Michilimackinac became operational and began taking in recruits for the Regular Army which was then organized into three brigades under command of General Winfield Scott Hancock (the future US commander in Afghanistan). On December 2, 1840, Colonel Augustus Shephard donated a cannon to join those already on hand at Ft Michilimackinac; this cannon was later replaced with one donated by James Wistar (1827-1911) who served as Commandant of Cadets at West Point during both Presidents Harrison and McKinley's administrations – he also donated two more cannons toFort Michilimackinac between 1886-1892 In 1846-47 there was an outbreak of war between Great Britain and America over impressment rights on American vessels docked off Canada; this led to increased activity inside ports along the Great Lakes region with warships being brought into service equipped with cannons while their crews were repatriated back home armed only with muskets or pistols . This trend continued through most conflicts leading up to World War I From 1861 until 1865 there was no regular USArmy presence in Michigan due to ConfederateMLA rule prohibiting conscription into military forces without specific congressional authorization; however Regular Army units did operate out of Ft Dearborn intermittently until that point . During these years many civilians took up arms against slavery & Northern aggression including local blacksmiths named Sumner who formed volunteer militias called "Black Soldier" raised primarily from enslaved African Americans living within rebel territory . White residents also got involved in such activities such as forming vigilante groups known as “Peanut Patrol” which would harass slaveholders suspected of having private property holdings worth money not included within public taxation rolls etc ..eventually all vestiges ceased after Union victory over Confederates at Battle Of Gettysburg ..

The Novi Military Base was originally established in 1916 as a World War I training ground for the Michigan National Guard. It later became an all-volunteer military base and the home of the 1st Armored Division, which fought in World War II. The 1st Armored Division was also responsible for construction of the first airfield in Michigan. The base closed its doors in 1994 and is now used as a parking lot for the Novi Municipal Airport.

Of note is that according to 2016 American Community Survey data[6], 61% (27/33)of all adults aged 20 years or over identify themselves as "white", making Novi one of only two cities within Michigan without any Hispanic descent other than Mexican Americans (the other beingDetroit). This lack of diversity comes at an opportune time given that Hispanics represent 17 percent[7]of Michiganders overall population growth rate from 1990-2015,[8] While African Americans represented 10 percent(2/5)of this growth rate between 1990-2015 statewide[9].

Novi, Michigan is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. Novi was platted in 1827 and named for the Rev. John Novak, an American missionary to Russia who had come to the area that year. The first post office was established in 1829. The present courthouse was built in 1892 and is one of the oldest public buildings in Michigan. The town has a population of about 3800 as of 2010[1]. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Winchester Metropolitan Statistical Area. Novi's history began with Baptist missionaries coming to the area in 1827. Reverend John Novak baptized many people here and helped start churches and schools throughout what would become Wayne County. In 1848, Colonel George Stephenson founded Decatur Township which included much of what are now Novi Township and portions of Holland Township; this township became part of Novi when it was organized as a separate municipality in 1859. In 1862, while fighting on behalf of Ulysses S Grant during the American Civil War, General George Armstrong Custer attacked Native Americans at Little Big Horn National Monument near Fort Peck (now Cheboygan), Minnesota; he died doing so here on July 17th (the day after Thanksgiving). This event is generally considered to be Don Carlos' Raid or "Custer's Massacre". At least 20 people were killed including nine soldiers from Company D2 Cavalry Regiment commanded by Major Charles Reynolds – 2nd USVET – age 25 at the time(!). Two days later on July 19th Indian scouts discovered bodies scattered around Fort Peck but no survivors could be found so Lieutenant Edward Kapp assumed command and ordered all settlers out until further notice! A search party found 6 scalps amongst various belongings within 30 miles radius but unfortunately only 3 heads were recovered! One source claims that up to 50 men may have been lost altogether... due to lack evidence or simply neglect Castleman never published any official reports whatsoever about his findings however there are numerous personal accounts sightings/finds surrounding this incident which cast doubt upon his story even if he did report it accurately... Despite these difficulties Lt Kapp continued Searching everyday with help from local Indians until August 11th when word arrived back at camp that no incriminating evidence had been located despite intense pressure from General Custer’s family members back home In 1865 Captain John Gillett led an Expedition into Canada against Sitting Bull resulting in 8 dead & 5 missing october 16th 1865-november 1st 1865
