Norton Shores is a small town in the Kalamazoo Hills region of Michigan. It is home to one of the first gourmet coffee shops, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, in 1945. The shop was started by two friends, Harry and Elsie Norton, who were looking for a place to buy quality coffee while they were still living at their parents' house. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf opened its doors to customers on May 1, 1945. At that time, it was the only grocery store in Norton Shores and it served fresh-brewed coffee made from beans roasted on site. In 1977, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf merged with another gourmet coffee shop, The Peet's Coffee Shop. That store also served fresh-brewed coffee and tea until 2003 when it closed its doors due to bankruptcy. In 2007, a new gourmet coffee shop called Artisan Roastersopened in Norton Shores and continues to serve fresh-brewed coffee and tea today. Artisan Roasters is owned by Donny Deutschman who has been running the shop since its opening. He started out as an employee at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf before becoming owner/operator of the new business. Today, Norton Shores boasts one of the most popular gourmet coffee shops in Michigan with over 100 regulars coming each day for their delicious cup of Joe!

In 1912, the first café called "Café de la Gente" was founded by Arthur Prentice and Edwin Weems. In 1916, Vernon Jablonski opened "Jablonski's Café". In 1951, Clifford Aiken and his brother-in-law Don Lipscomb started "Don & Clifford's Coffee Shop". In 1984, Bob Monaghan reopened "Bob Monaghan's Coffee Shop". The current location of Norton Shores' first Starbucks opened on Woodward Avenue in 2009.

Norton Shores was founded in 1869 by John Norton and John Waddell as a small farming community on the banks of the Muskegon River. The town grew rapidly due to its position near the mouth of the Muskegon River and its proximity to Chicago and other industrial cities. In 1925, Norton Shores became an incorporated municipality with a mayor-council government. In 1951, it merged with neighboring Bay City to form a larger city. Today, Norton Shores is one of the most diverse cities in Michigan with over 30% of its citizens being minority groups including African Americans (20%), Latinos (10%), Asians (5%), Native Americans (3%), and Poles (2%). Its economy is based on manufacturing - including plastics and electric vehicles - as well as service industry contributions such as retail trade and healthcare services. The city has been awarded numerous awards for its quality of life including recognition by Forbes magazine as one of America's "Best Places to Live" in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; second place for livability from Kiplinger's Personal Finance Living Supplement; first place for safety from rankings compiled by Forbes Magazine; and third place overall for economic vitality from Chamber of Commerce America’s “Michigan Economic Report Card” released in 2009. It wasn't until the 18th century that coffee started being exported from Europe andNorth America. Coffee became popularized in East Asia during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) and during ensuing Golden Age of Coffee (1860-1920). But by 1865, when Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens first described black beans as containing caffeine, coffee had become firmly entrenched as an American drink. The growth of espresso cafes throughout North America paralleled this shift to American tastes; at first these establishments were limited to areas such as New York City or Philadelphia where large populations were active caffeine addicts. However, early espresso pioneers like Angelo Badalamenti and Harry Schwartz soon opened Coffeeshops all over North America – starting with Toronto’s Rittenhouse Square in 1896 and ending up all over the continent by 1925. While some argue that technology has played a significant role in shaping how we enjoy our morning cup of Joe today (am I right, you ask), one thing is for sure: without quality coffee beans sourced from different parts of the world – especially Indonesia – we would not be enjoying this delicious stimulant today as we are!

Norton Shores is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Norton Shores was John Prentice. In 1819, he and his family founded the village of Norton on Muskegon Peninsula near present-day Grand Rapids. The village became a borough in 1868 and then a city in 1905. The first post office in Norton Shores was established on October 1, 1818, by James Aitkin and others under the name of "Muskegon Heights." It was changed to "Norton" on November 6, 1836, after being moved from Muskegon Heights to what is now Norton Shores. The original town plat included all of present-day Washtenaw County except for small parcels located east and north of Ann Arbor within Dearborn County. This area would later become part of Detroit metropolitan area. In 1865, an act approved by the Michigan Legislature designated parts of Washtenaw and Wayne counties as “Municipal District No. 2” for further development within those counties; this urban growth pattern continued until 1931 when it reverted back to county lines following the creation of Metro Detroit.. On December 12, 1907 – just one month before its incorporation into Metro Detroit as a city – Norton Shores had its first election as Mayor/Councilman with Abram Smith (D) serving as Mayor and Wm.[?] Fenton (R) serving as Councilman; both men were later elected to full terms without opposition in 1912 and 1916 respectively.. In 1955–1956 when Washtenaw County merged with Wayne County to form MetroDetroit – which included Norton Shores within its boundaries – most municipal services were transferred from Washtenaw County to MetroDetroit including police officers/firefighters/etc., while public works such as streetlights remained under state control until 1959 when they were turned over toMetroDetroit again through legislation passed by Governor George Romney..
Norton Shores was founded in 1855 by John Norton and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after John Norton's ancestor, Sir Nicholas Shores, who settled in the area in the late 17th century. The first post office serving Norton Shores was established in 1857. In 1865, a sawmill was built in the town. By 1870, Norton Shores had a population of around 100 people. In 1886, a railroad station was built in the town. By 1914, the population had grown to 300 people and by 1930 it had reached 500 people. The community experienced significant growth during World War II with an increase from 50 to 400 residents; however, due to bombing raids during that time period, most of the homes and businesses were destroyed or damaged.
