Fenton continued to run it until his death in 1984. At that time, it became an affiliate of Bob Evans Coffee Co., which remains a part of the Evans family today. The first settler in what would become Norton Shores was John Norton who arrived in 1796 from England. He named his land "Norton." In 1836, George Stephenson built a sawmill on the river near present-day downtown Norton Shores and began to ship logs downriver to Wilkinson's mills and then farther downstream to Detroit where they were turned into lumber. By 1837, there were three mills active in town: Wilkinson's mill, Stephenson's mill, and Grinstead & Company's mill which also processed cotton.
In 1847, Congress authorized Merchant Marine Academy (now US Coast Guard Academy) within the newly formed federal government as a training ground for sailors and Marines. This led to increased shipping traffic on the upper Great Lakes so Richardson built a wharfage along the western bank of river just north of town for more than fifty years until it was destroyed by flooding during an ice storm on February 3rd 1924.
One significant event during this time came when Commodore Matthew Cushing became commodore of all American forces off Mackinac Island on November 21st1846 while he was touring with Admiral James FentonCushing Museum According to maritime historian Loren Pogue, "Although Commodore Cushing had no experience navigating open water waters or managing large fleets...he correctly interpreted Admiral Fenton’s instructions that vessels not moored at any single place should return only if they could find another berth available." In fact, Commodore Cushing supervised major repairs and rebuilding operations at MCA including installation of new navigation equipment as well as building a new fortification around campus though much remains today unexcavated.

The first mention of coffee being brewed fresh comes from Ibn Battuta in his travelogue, which describe how Arabs would drink hot water with sweet spices before going to bed. Unfortunately, no recipe exists for this type of coffee until the 15th century when a Portuguese Jesuit named Francisco Rodrigues wrote about brewing coffee using percolated water. However, Rodrigues' recipe did not work very well so he replaced it with cold water and then boiled some green peppers before adding groundnuts or almonds (which gave him an addictive flavor). In 1795, Nicholas-Jacques Conte registered his discovery that roasted coffee beans could be stored at room temperature for up to six months without becoming sour or stale. This made fresh roasted coffee much more convenient than buying pre-roasted beans from grocery stores. Norton Shores is a small town in Shiawassee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norton Shores was organized as a village in 1871 and became a city on November 3, 1907. In 1957 it merged with nearby Holland to form Norton Shores–Holland City. On December 15, 1959, the merger was dissolved and Norton Shores reverted to its previous name of Norton Shores/Holland City. The current mayor of Norton Shore is Donny Schlesinger. The town is named after Commodore Samuel Eaton Norton (1796-1868), one of the founders of Detroit and one of the first white men to settle there. He had been captain of HMS "Beagle" during the Peninsular War (1804-1810). After taking command of USS Constitution (1797) in 1807 during the War for Independence, he helped lead American forces into battle at Yorktown ( October 17-November 11, 1814). As captaincy went out of style after Commodore John Adams joined Washington's army as General George Washington's aide-de-camp in 1799 he decided to sell his commission and move back home to become a farmer. Commodore Eaton moved from his farmstead near Battle Creek into what would become NortonShores in early 1800s when most people were still living on farms along riversides or on isolated hillsides deep within Indian country east of Stroudsburg Landing on Lake Huron where today you can find evidence that someone built an early log cabin about 1800 by reversing logs so they would stand up straight and look like one large piece In 1851 when only 10 people lived here permanent residents Margaret Alderney White working as a maidservant for Mrs Richardson opened her own household establishment known as “Alderney” which she ran until 1865 when she married Mr White who became Mayor from 1861 until 1865 It should be noted that not all residents were single women; some couples also resided here together while others had rental properties located elsewhere in Shiawassee County while others continued farming their land providing food for their families . When Ms White retired she sold her business assets back to her husband who then operated it until his death in 1951 On November 3rd 1907 when Detroit amalgamated with other municipalities NortonShORe became its new sister city becoming one with over 1 million citizens sharing resources including schools, hospitals & businesses forming what we now know as Downtown Grand Rapids After years being overshadowed by neighboring Holland due largely to its smaller size & lack if services Downtown Grand Rapids experienced growth spurt aided by state funded grants totaling $225K which led to construction projects such as The Renaissance Center now home to Ashley Furniture Mart , Wahlberg’s restaurant , Chippendale Restaurant later acquired by Olive Garden Inc . & numerous other businesses downtown including Masonic Lodge #2 where current Mayor Donny Schlesinger holds office
Norton Shores was founded in 1868 by J.P. Norton and his brothers, George and Franklin. It became a port on the Detroit River and grew into a major commercial center for the region. The city was named after J.P. Norton's older brother, Samuel Norton, who had been elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1859. In 1907, Norton Shores was annexed by the City of Detroit; however, it continued to be known as an independent community until 1967 when it merged with the City of Flint to form one municipality.
