The Norton Shores coffee history begins with the early days of coffee production in this small town. In 1875, a Danish immigrant named Rasmus Nielsen started planting coffee trees in what is now Norton Shores. He and his family ran a small farm that produced fresh coffee until 1914. In 1916, the first machine to produce cup-by-cup espresso was invented by Italian immigrants Angelo Benvenuto and Giovanni Grasso in Trenton, New Jersey. These machines were used to make decaf or cappuccinos. The Grado brothers, who operated the Benvenuto & Grasso Coffee Company from 1977 to 1982, are considered pioneers of espresso production in America. Norton Shores continued to be a key center for coffee production through the years, thanks to its excellent soil and water conditions. Norton Shores is a town in Muskegon County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,674 at the 2000 census and 2,083 at the 2010 census. Norton Shores is located on the eastern edge of Muskegon Heights Township and is bordered by Saginaw to the north, Clinton Township to the east, Ottawa Township to the south, and Holland Township to the west. It lies along M-2 (the expressway), which forms its southern border. The first settler in Norton Shores was James Laughlin who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. A post office was established in 1848, and it remained in operation until 1963. The first store opened in 1870 on present day Second Street. In 1881, John Haggerty purchased land from Laughlin and began developing it into an agricultural community with some log homes and a schoolhouse/church that he named Norton Hall after his father's home near Fort Wayne IN; however no one living there anymore knows for certain how or when this name originated because it has been variously spelled "Hagarty", "Halgarty", "Halgarty" or even just "Norton". By 1907 there were five churches within two miles of town limits: threeMethodist Episcopal churches (Fenwick Chapel, Holy Cross Church & Trinity Methodist Church) as well as Baptist meetings held at Nichols' Corners Presbyterian church; all within one mile of each other across Resurrection Road (now M-2). In 1916 Clifford Waddell became manager of Ford Motor Company's Rouge Plant located just outside of town Limits; Henry Ford drove his production car from Dearborn MI down through Norton Shores on many occasions during 1916-1917 for assembly line testing purposes only - never actually driving offroad! When World War I startedWWI officially ended November 11th 1918 however America kept going with another global conflict starting two days later by declaring war against Austria over their noncompliance with Treaty Of Trianon which called for Austria to split into numerous republics including Czechoslovakia proper - thus annexing Hungary - Serbia also declared themselves free so we had WWI again!!!!! Ford closed Rouge Plant in 1921 but continued operations under new management as Independent Motors Corporation until merged into Chrysler Corporation soon thereafter

Coffee was mentioned by Aristotle in his work De natura et artis (On the Nature and Art of Coffee). In 1790, The Boston Tea Party began when American colonists took tea from British sailors off Long Island. This event is thought to have started the U.S. Revolution as many people across New England began drinking coffee as a way to stay awake during long days of travel. In 1847, Frenchman Pierre-Joseph Lecoq brought coffeepots back to France after traveling through North America on a trading journey. He claimed that he had discovered a new type of beans called 'Pétrusse' which were larger than those used for traditional Turkish coffee. Soon thereafter, espresso became popular in Europe thanks to Italian immigrants who brought their own espresso machines with them when they settled in cities such as Rome and Paris. However, it wasn't until World War II that artisan coffee truly took off around the world because of wartime rationing policies that limited availability of different types of plants ingredients like beans and water needed for brewing cafés' famous roasts or tasselled drinks like cappuccinos or lattes*. As demand increased during the postwar decades for more upscale products like bourbon milk chocolate milk ® , gourmet coffees became increasingly popular throughout the world * . For example, Starbucks launched its first roast shop globally in Seattle in 1992 * . Norton Shores is a small town in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It has been home to residents since 1834, when John Norton and his family arrived from Connecticut. Norton Shores was originally called "Norton Harbor," but was renamed in honor of Commodore Samuel Eliot Morison for his role in the American Revolutionary War. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as a result of its location on the navigable waterway known as Grand Traverse Bay, which facilitated trade and commerce between Eastern Michigan and Canada. In 1899, Norton Shores became an incorporated municipality with a population of just over 100 people. The town's growth continued through World War II, when it served as headquarters for the United States Military Command Southwest Pacific Area. After the war, Norton Shores experienced a period of rapid decline; however, it has regained some stability and recent development has focused on revitalizing its economy. Today, Norton Shores is one of southern Michigan's most vibrant communities with a strong cultural heritage and active community spirit that continues to thrive despite difficult times.
Norton Shores was founded in 1871 by George Norton and his wife, Esther. The town was named after George Norton's father, who had settled there in the mid 1800s. In 1907, the town became a borough and was renamed Norton Shores Borough. In 1959, the township of Norton Shores merged with the borough of Sterling Heights to form Sterling Heights-Norton Shores Township. The township name reverted to Norton Shores Borough in 1982 when it merged back into Sterling Heights Township.
