The history of the navy in Muskegon Heights begins with the localVERSION-1.0 Ironset, which was built by John A. Dvorak in 1892. The navy entered into a partnership with the Muskegon Heights Chamber of Commerce in 1916 and donated its first ship, the SS "Cleveland" to that organization. The partnership continued until 1922 when it separated due to budgetary reasons. In 1925, the navy purchased two more ships from Chicago Shipyards, USS "Sturgeon" and USS "Shasta". These were put into service as minesweepers until 1939 when they were decommissioned and scrapped. Following World War II, there was a renewed interest in maritime activity in Muskegon Heights and the navy began donating new vessels again. In 1951, it donated USS "Othello" to be used as a naval training vessel forMuskegon Heights High School students before she was donationized to other organizations. Since then, there have been numerous donations from various sources including US Navy Ships Museum Foundation (USS Constitution Museum), Michigan State University's History Department (USS Beecham Museum), andMuskegon Heights Marina Association (USS Monitor Museum). In 2003, USS Constitution Museum partnered up with US Naval Institute Press to publish a book on naval gift history in Muskegon Heights - A History of Naval Gifts from 1892-2003 . This book has since been reprinted several times and is currently being used as an undergraduate textbook at Muskegon Hills Community College

The Muskegon Heights Naval Air Station was home to the Muskegon Heights Marine Air Station from 1941-1946. The station served as a training ground for pilots and aircrew of American warships in the Battle of Midway, World War II. The station closed after the war and was replaced by the present naval air station in 1949.
Muskegon Heights is a small town in the western part of Michigan. The population was 3,752 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Ottawa County to the south and east, Lapeer County to the north and west, and Wayne County to the northwest. Muskegon Heights is located in Muskegon Township. The Muskegon Heights Historical District covers most of what is now Muskegon Heights. The first settlers arrived in 1837, but it wasn't until 1881 that a post office called Muskegon Heights was established. In 1924, a new school was built on present-day Third Street in Muskegonia Township and named after Drury Hinton, who donated land for it. The district's buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Today, much of what once made up Muskegon Heights has been replaced by malls or other development projects: One block contains only one business remaining from when there were six; another block has undergone several years of redevelopment with little evidence left of its original community feel; Fourth Street now features an all-encompassing commercial complex that includes anchor stores such as Sears and JCPenney as well as smaller businesses catering to a wide variety of customers; Sixth Street has been completely redeveloped into an expressway corridor connecting downtown Detroit with nearby villages like Southfield and Sterling Heights.; Seventh Street still retains some remnant architecture from its early days as a residential street including contributing two-story wood frame homes dating back to 1923.; Eighth Avenue runs along the eastern edge ofmuskegonia township., containing several small shops before becoming an expressway industrial corridor However, despite these changes overall, many people continue to live and work within muskEGon Heights’ boundaries which remain largely rural with few services available closer than 10 miles away while larger cities have become more accessible via freeway travel or satellite TV listings alone ().

In addition to its military importance, the navy also provides leadership and training for America’s Marine Corps; Coast Guard; National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) personnel; as well as providing support services to state governments throughout the nation.

In 1834, the Muskegon Heights area was charted as part of the Town of Detroit. In 1835, it was organized as a village and named for Colonel George Muskegon. The town limits grew to encompass present-day Muskegon Heights in 1847. On November 1, 1850, Detroit incorporated as a city and the village became part of that city. The population of Muskegon Heights reached 2,000 by 1860. In 1863, the village was renamed Muskegon City after then-Mayor James RansomMuskegon County's first elections were held in that year and he ran on the ticket with Mayor John Fenton. The election results showed that most citizens wanted to keep their current name while others adopted City Hall Road as their new municipality name - thus setting off what would become one of Michigan's most popular civic traditions. The population in 1930 was over 10,000 people but had decreased to around 7500 by 1946 due to World War II rural flight and other factors such as agriculture being displaced by industry during this time period. However, since 1960s there has been significant growth once again with an estimated population over 110000 now living within its borders making it one of Michigan's fastest growing cities
In 1814, the Muskegon Heights area was organized as a township. On November 3, 1827, it was renamed Muskegon Township. On December 15, 1850, the township became a city.
