The National Guard in Mount Pleasant, Michigan was first organized on December 5, 1847. At that time, the Michigan Territory was divided into two parts; the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula. The Upper Peninsula was made up of what is now Wayne County, Michigan while the Lower Peninsula included most of today’s Ingham County. This separation of powers would continue through to 1861 when the state of Michigan was re-organized as a single entity. The National Guard continued to exist within this new entity but its purpose changed from being a militia to being an emergency force for police and public security. Mount Pleasant is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 7,423 at the 2010 census, up from 6,853 in 2000. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Mount Pleasant comes from a white settler named George Washington who map-marked what is now Mount Pleasant as "Pleasant Hill" on his survey of Detroit Township in 1789. A post office called Mount Pleasant was established in 1812, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. One early resident was Elijah Jukes, who arrived in 1816 and built a cabin on the banks of the Rouge River. Jukes named his settlement after his plantation on Mount Vernon Island near Petersburg, Virginia where he had been born and raised. In 1824, John Butterfield surveyed what is now Mount Pleasant township and named it after himself but no one else living there at that time took him up on his offer to name the community after himself; this naming change happened many years later when Butterfield's son-in-law Isaac Niles settled there with other German immigrants from upper Canada.. The first store opened for business in 1830 at Depot Street and Albion Avenue which served as a crossroads for farmers traveling to Holland or eastward to find work throughout much of Michigan., The first school was erected by Revd Samuel Morse (a Presbyterian minister) around 1840 on land donated by Judge Jeremiah Cranch along with some other early settlers at Fairmount Cemetery near present day Beaver Dam Road/Route 9 north of town center). By 1850 only a few residents were still living there except for those coming down regularly for goods brought overland via Lake Huron or going into town to buy groceries etc.; today nothing remains of this period structure save its foundation which can be seen from across Main Street./ One reason why businesses closed early during this time period may have been because wood became scarce due to weather conditions such as severe freezes or fires so often plaguing central Michigan during these times.). In 1861 new buildings were constructed on Park Avenue between Arsenal Road and East Whitehall Avenue including several stores including Grosse Pointe Woolen Mill & Textile Company (now known as Sears), buckets shop (now known as Farrington’s), bakery (later First National Bank) two story frame building become home to Masonic Lodge #2 also used by United Brethren Church until 1951/. This area came under threat when local landowners started draining wetlands owned by local farmer James Wurtzel resulting in an increase water table level making agricultural production very difficult especially since Wurtzel had been using pumps supplied by William Hutton then owner of Fort Wayne Shipbuilding Co.. However members of United Brethren Church banded together successfully reverse engineering their church pews so they could be rewired using galvanized iron instead allowing them to remain standing until 1951 while all other structures within 500 feet were torn down leaving little evidence behind despite being well documented through aerial photos taken prior to 1978 when changes occurred which resulted in increased development activities adjacent to current day surface water boundaries creating potential flood damage caused by recent rains .) After becoming aware of this potential risk they quickly installed roofing over exposed metalpipes leading directly into Building Lot 5 where currently stands former Masonic Lodge #2 located just east side Of Main Street opposite wall once functioned asactually Factory / Warehouse../ Today First National Bank stands vacant next door however several large trees remain outside original building providing shade during summer months

By 1920, there were only 100 residents remaining and business had ceased altogether because of lack of customers or investment for new development.During World War II, Mount Pleasant served as a training ground for the US military during the Battle of Detroit where over 50% of all casualties occurred within one day from November 8-10 1945; this is also when most destruction took place within downtown Mount Pleasant because many civilians were killed or captured by Japanese forces retreating through that area after the battle ended
