Mount Pleasant is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine metropolitan area. The Mount Pleasant post office was established on July 4, 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on July 25, 1934. Mount Pleasant has two schools: Mount Pleasant Elementary School (K-6) and Holyoke Middle School (7-9). There are also several churches in the town: First Baptist Church (founded in 1847), Mount Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church (founded in 1892), Saint John's Lutheran Church (established in 1865), and Sacred Heart Catholic Parish Priestage/School of Missions/Church of Our Lady of Lourdes (founded in 1902). The town started as a farming community with a single farmstead. The first school house was built around 1837 and became known as the "Old Academy." In 1840, land near present-day Mount Pleasant was donated by General Solomon Hill to become an agricultural college forMuskegon County students. The college became known as Western Michigan University after it opened its doors on October 1, 1890. In 1916, when Muskegon County merged into Wayne County, Mount Pleasant became one of the original towns within that new county. In 1934, when Muskegon County disbanded due to changing demographics and boundary changes within the state of Michigan,[1] MtPleasant reverted back to its pre-merger status as an unincorporated community located within Muskegon County proper. As such, it continues to maintain its own government while being governed by local officials through ordinances passed by village trustees who are elected every four years. Despite this setup - which some see as archaic - MtPleasant retains close ties with neighboring communities throughout its sevensquaremile territory.[2][3] Its citizens often attend events sponsored by their surrounding villages or cities; for example, each year during Arbor Day weekend residents from all over gather at Sacred Heart Catholic parish for mass services followed by picnics outdoors before spending time inside their many cultural attractions including art galleries and history museums open to visitors from out of town;[4] or during Christmas season shoppers descend upon nearby malls looking for unique gift items available only at these localized stores which locals celebrate with traditionalChristmas feasts indoors before returning home early evening.[5]

Mount Pleasant is a small town located in the Kalamazoo-Portage County, Michigan area. The population was 627 at the 2000 census. It has been since shrunk to 513 as of the 2010 census. After the end of the Revolutionary War, settlers started moving into what is now Mount Pleasant from all over Upper Michigan and other parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania. By 1800, there were around 100 people living in what is today Mount Pleasant. In 1814, Henry Ford began construction on his first manufacturing plant in nearby Portage City and ordered his workers to use local woods for fuel and lumber because he didn't want his plants to be polluting cities with heavy particles from trees. This early example of mass production helped create Mount Pleasant's nickname as "The Landmark City." In 1836, John Ladd purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of downtown Mountpleasant from Anthony Wayne for $1,000. He named it Township 23 North after himself and laid out a township grid with square blocks about 8 feet (2 meters) wide called lots 1 through 8A. A courthouse was built in 1840 on lot 2A and by 1850 there were six schools; four public high schools, one private academy (later Midland Academy), two churches (First Presbyterian and Methodist), three blacksmiths shops/factory, four stores (one open only during summer months), one doctor's office/hospital, two mills (two hand looms), one gristmill (one powered by waterpower) which served many purposes including making flour for baking bread until 1862 when electric power became available through a new line extending eastward from Detroit via Indiana; milk products were produced here also until 1885 when automobiles became popular so these activities stopped). Mount Pleasant experienced economic decline during the late 19th century as production moved away to larger factories elsewhere or went out of business entirely due to technological advances like electricity or transportation improvements such as improved railroads which made traveling between towns much faster than before. However, some businesses did continue operations such as the First Presbyterian Church that continued services even though it had no basement because attendees could come down steeply onto an outdoor platform where they listened to sermons preached outdoors without getting wet if they wanted to avoid rain or snow conditions inside their building on warm days! Mountain Grove Cemetery opened its doors in 1853 following a donation from Simon Griggs who donated land near present day Southfield for just this purpose! In 1865 Mtpleasant residents raised money using part of their proceeds from sellingered maple sugar candy collected during Maple syrup Days that year in memory of their fallen compatriots killed during the American Civil War according to newspaper reports at that time - this event helps date Mount Pleasant's start as an agricultural community back to at least1865 although some historians place this start earlier still citing evidence indicating MtPleasant residents may have gathered maple sugar candy sometime prior thereto! Despite being struggling economically throughout most of its history due to changes in technology &apaired social unrest throughout much US History,[7] Mount pleasant has maintained an important role within local community life & culture both past & present thru various events / celebrations all culminating into its 375th anniversary celebration currently taking place this October 25-29 inclusive!
