In 1898, Eugene Debs founded the National Coffee Association in Mount Pleasant with the goal of promoting roast quality throughout America. In 1916, Debs passed away and his son Harold took over leadership of the organization.Under Harold's guidance, NCA increased its production from 1 million pounds per year to over 20 million pounds by 1947. Today, Mount Pleasant is home to many successful businesses that continue to produce high-quality roast coffee. These businesses include Harrington Coffee Roasters (founded in 1978), First Illinois Coffee (founded in 1922), Roper's Old World Coffee Corporation (founded 1909), and The Gristmill at 499 Saginaw Rd., which still grinds beans fresh every day!

The Mount Pleasant Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by George Foreman and John Burke. It was the first coffee company in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The company became known for its roast of medium-bodied, smooth beans.
Mount Pleasant is a small village in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,775 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Warren Township local government. The first white people to settle in what is now Mount Pleasant were prospectors who came across an area rich in coal and iron ore during their 1848 trip through what is now Lower Michigan. The town was named after George Washington's plantation on Sandy Lake in Virginia (now Norfolk County). In 1881, two pioneers - John H. Smith and his wife Lillie - established a small farmstead on a hill overlooking the present-day village. They raised chickens and pigs, milked cows, hunted rabbits and squirrels, built sawmills for grinding coal and lumber, and created shop windows displaying various items from their household until about 1910 when electric lights became available. According to the 2010 census, there are 1,773 people living in Mount Pleasant Village: 511 households (57% of all households), 721 families (24% of all families), 2* single family dwellings (1% of all homes), 4 businesses with full or partial occupancy (2% of all businesses), 2 churches/synagogues (both Congregationalist) – one with services on Sabbath days only and one open daily for worship; 191 nonresidential units; 3 Tribal members; 10 Federal employees as part of National Guard duty training at Muskegon Heights High School; 1 military unit providing support services to U.S. Army Garrison Muskegon Heights; 68 residents who identify as being foreign born (22% of total population); 8 residents who self-identified as having no race other than American Indian/Alaskan Native ancestry but whose family has permanent residency status in the United States

The town of Mount Pleasant, Michigan is located in the northwestern corner of the state of Michigan and was established in 1837. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson's home of Mount Pleasant in Tennessee. The first settler in Mount Pleasant was George Washington, who arrived in 1836. The town had a population of about eighty people when it was platted out and grew rapidly during the 1840s as settlers came to take advantage of the rich mineral resources near by. By 1850, Mount Pleasant had a population of two hundred people. During the American Civil War, Mount Pleasant sided with the Union side and most residents were forced to evacuate during the battle for Detroit on September 10th, 1863. In 1865, following the war, most residents returned to their homes within months andMountpleasant slowly regained its previous level of prosperity until World War II interrupted any further growth. In 1954, Mount Pleasant became an incorporated community under the name Albion Township when portions of Macomb County were transferred from Wayne County to Albion Township. In 1957, Albion Township changed its name back to Mount Pleasant when it merged with neighboring village of Hollandale into one municipality known as Hollandale-Mount Pleasant Borough. From 1958 until 1974, Fort Recovery (now downtown) was located adjacent to Albion Township while Hollandale served as its southern border. Finally on January 1st, 1978 all municipalities within Hollandale-Mountpleasant Borough amalgamated into one municipality known asMount Plymouth which has since grown significantly into a highly developed community with over two thousand residents residing within its boundaries including over three hundred businesses operating within its limits alone! Today many locals view Mount Plymouth as their "second home" due to both its abundance of natural resources (including coal and oil), excellent public schools system combined with easy access to shopping malls and other important highways leading into Lansing or Toledo - making it an ideal location for anyone looking for economic stability and opportunities outside their hometowns!
In 1837, the first white people set foot on what is now Mount Pleasant Township. The Onondaga and Ottawa Indian nations were living in this area at the time, but they did not allow European settlers to come and live among them. In 1838, a group of Englishmen came up the river and established a trading post on the site that is now known as Ford City. From here, they started to trade with local tribes for goods such as animals, clothing, and food. The Englishman who founded Ford City was named John Denton.
