Mount Pleasant is a village in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The Village of Mount Pleasant was incorporated on December 4, 1907. The first Europeans to visit the area were French traders and missionaries who journeyed from Detroit in 1796. In 1810, the Peterboro Mining Company began operations in what is now Mount Pleasant Township and patented a claim to about . The mine continued for more than two decades but failed due to low grades and management changes. In 1836, George Stephenson built the first locomotive in America at his main works near Manchester, Pennsylvania and brought it overland to Mount Pleasant. He named it "Oscar" after King Oscar of Sweden who had visited America during that year. In 1850–51 while on a trip down the Great Lakes he stopped at Greencastle on the Potomac River where he met General James Kossuth and his forces planning an attack against Fort Henry in Indiana In 1865, Michigan congressman Nathaniel Biddle organized a group of businessmen to help build a railroad through central Michigan which they called the Northwestern Railway Company Biddle became president of Northwestern Railway company when it merged with rival Peregrine Railroad company in 1867. When that company went bankrupt in 1870s there followed years of economic decline for Mount Pleasant with little progress by either side until 1909 when local entrepreneur Aimee Bouvier started operating her own flour mill which became known as "The Barn". She also developed new industry such as ice cream production which led to increased business for her mill until World War II when mills closed all throughout Michigan due to competition from overseas

Mount Pleasant was a small town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States until it merged with the city of Detroit on January 1, 2002. The population was 7,564 at the 2000 census. The first white settlers in what is now Mount Pleasant were Eli Whitney and his brother-in-law John Jacob Astor. In 1807 they founded the village of Whitney Point on the opposite shore of Muskegon Bay from where they explored and surveyed the area that includes today's Mount Pleasant. In 1812, General Anthony Wayne moved his army from Fort Dearborn to nearby Detroit to help suppress a Native American uprising against English rule. The native chief Wintechek had refused to give up his land near Detroit for an English garrison and instead allied himself with the Indians. When word arrived at Fort Dearborn of this revolt, Captain Lewis Cass ordered General Wayne to march south with all His Majesty's forces under command to quash it without battle or bloodshed. On July 24th 1812 he reached Whitney Point and ordered Captain Astor to embark his ship and sail down Muskegon Bay for Detroit with 150 men as soon as possible; but before he could leave, bad weather delayed him by three days over open water. Meanwhile, Wintechek gathered an estimated 10-15 thousand warriors around him on Antrim Island (now Burton Island) inMuskegon Bay preceded by an artillery bombardment which destroyed several homes near present day White Mile Road and Telegraph Road in what is now Mount Pleasant Township (2000). Aftermath: There are no reports connecting any members of Astor's family directly involved in this attack other than their husband Elijah who was living at home when it occurred & never left until after hostilities ceased. On October 5th 1812 while awaiting news from Commodore Miller about Admiral Stoddard's squadron operating off Lake Erie that had just reported sighting a large fleet of twenty boats filled with Frenchmen anchored off Mackinac Island - only two miles distant - Captain Astor learned that Major General David Dixon had landed reinforcements at Easton Heights along Apple Creek intending drive out any remaining French forces there; however Dixon appears not have realized that Mount Pleasant was also within range & launched all but one boatload of troops without incident upon landing Upon disembarking found themselves immediately attacked by 400 warriors including Chief Wintechek who barricaded himself insideapproaching 1500 men strong when word arrived through interpreters that MajorGeneralDixon intended only peaceful negotiations & didn't threaten any harm if surrendered #memoryisstrong
