Mount Clemens is a small, rural community in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Maceo Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Mount Clemens were French traders in the early 17th century, and later fur-traders. The area was first settled by Germans in 1809, and became a part of the Kingdom of Michigan under Governor George Stephenson in 1825. In 1837, the United States acquired all of land east of the Huron River from Great Britain as part of Treaty No. 9 with Canada; this included Mount Clemens Township and much of adjacent Monroe County. In 1853, due to increased railroad traffic through that area, Mount Clemens incorporation as a village was granted by Michigan General Assembly on November 15; it officially became a municipality on January 1, 1854. In 1912, an amusement park was built next to what is now Mount Clemens Elementary School; it closed after two years due to financial problems. A new amusement park opened in 1984 called "The Park". That park closed after one year due to lack of attendance and vandalism by players and their parents who wanted more active outdoor activities near their homes than at an amusement park where they could only watch people play games without getting any fun out of it themselves (the layout resembled Disneyland). In 2009-10 there was some talk about developing a new golf course for Mount Clemens but no progress has been made since then Today there are many businesses located around town including: Chevrolet Dealership/Parts Warehouse (since 1949), FordDealerships/Ford Parts Warehouse (since 1951), Joe's Pizza (since 1984), McDonalds/Michelangelos Pizza (since 1990) & KFC/Kentucky Fried Chicken ( bastardized until recently as Kentucky Fried Chicken again). There are also several used car lots located near town center which are popular with locals for local pickups & sales during off hours or when noone else is open nearby

Mount Clemens, Michigan is a small city located in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the eastern edge of the Upper Peninsula ofMichigan. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. The Mount Clemens Post Office opened in 1871 and closed in 1937. The first settlers in what is now Mount Clemens were Methodists who immigrated from Wales in 1810. They founded a theological college called Methodist Episcopal College (now Hope University) on land that they bought from the government for $2,000. In 1831, Reverend Wm Hurlbut donated 135 acres (50 ha) to become an agricultural college named EDSU Agricultural College which became Michigan State University in 1951. In 1865, Jno Purdy purchased 5 square miles (15 km2) of land east of present-day Mount Clemens and developed it into what is today's downtown Mount Clemens area with its nine blocks bounded by Meridian Avenue to the north, Huron Street to the south and Fenton Street to the west and east; this area became known as "Purdytown." Purdytown was renamed Mount Clemens after one of his brothers-in-law who had died while fighting for independence from Great Britain during the American Revolution. In 1871, when Eaton Township was organized within Detroit County, MtClemens was added to Eaton Township but remained unincorporated until 1935 when it incorporated as a city under state law 6995 effective November 3rd of that year. At its incorporation date MtClemens had a population of 4 people living alone and 26 people living together in three lots totaling 213 feet² (.75 m²). By 1930 there were 1,083 residents living alone and 2,813 residents living together in 421 lots total size ranging from .25 m² up to .5 acre (). As part of its charter amendment passed by voters on November 3rd 1935 MtClemons established fire departments including one for each street block with two engines each; also included were police services including officers assigned duty nightime patrol; public library with reading room open 8 hours per day 7 days per week plus an hour devoted each week to researchRare books & manuscripts & other antiquities;; school system providing education through grades preK thru 12th inclusive.; emergency services consisting ambulance service 9am til 10pm daily & response team available 24/7 365 days per year 100% responder trained volunteers .... Today these same services continue unchanged except for an addition 911 line connected directly with local emergency management center
In 1837, the first post office was established at Mount Clemens. In 1859, the town gained a school and in 1861, an infirmary. The first store opened in 1865. By 1870, there were six businesses in Mount Clemens and by 1880, there were eleven businesses. In 1898, the town had two churches and one school. The population of Mount Clemens increased from 350 to 1,000 by 1910. The first movie theater was erected in 1912 and the first grocery store was opened in 1915.
