Mount Clemens is a small town in the Metro Detroit area of Michigan, United States. The population was 3,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of theClinton Township–Fort Gratiot school district. The Mount Clemens post office opened on December 12, 1873, and closed on October 15, 1951. The first settler in what would become Mount Clemens was James Sutherlin. He and his family made their home on a hill near present-day Mount Clemens Elementary School.
