The first coffee house in Mount Clemens was opened in 1853 by David L. Wright. He served coffee and hotcakes from his home on Gratiot Avenue. In 1876, John Galsworthy opened his own business in Mount Clemens and began serving espresso drinks called Italian Vespers. This business grew quickly until it closed in 1907 due to financial difficulties. In 1916, Helena Rubinstein opened a cafe named Coffee House on Wacker Drive which became one of the most popular cafes in Mount Clemens. She served national brands such as Kahlúa, Latte Macchiato and Americanos along with her own blends of coffee including Ethiopian Blueberry Cobbler Coffee. She also brewed her own roastings of coffee beans which she sold at her cafe. After she passed away in 1978, her cafe continued to be open until it closed in 1984 due to health concerns. In 1984, Starbucks purchased Coffee House from Helena Rubinstein's estate for $1 million dollars cash only! They renamed it Starbucks Coffee House after they bought it and continued to serve their same menu items along with new roasted beans each day until 2001 when they merged with Keurig Green Mountain Corporation effective September 15th that year! It was then that Starbucks started making their OWN COFFEE products starting with Seattle Starbuck's blend known as " Breakfast Blend." It wasn't until 2006 when they introduced their FIRST EVER COFFEE MILLS within their store!!! This allowed them to start roasting all OF THEIR OWN COFFEEbeans within their store unique flavor profiles (think: Java Bean Latte artichoke Moffett Lover’s Club)!) Mount Clemens is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 69,866 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit–Windsor Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Mount Clemens was David Dunham in 1824, although it had been inhabited by Indian traders since 1795. In 1836, John Dickey leased 4,000 acres (1 km2) from the United States for $10 per acre ($4 million equivalent today). In 1840, Isaac Nourse bought 1,500 acres (50 km2) from Dickey and began to settle it himself with his family and other pioneer citizens. In 1849-1850 John Sibley built a sawmill on the north bank of the Rouge River east of present-day Mount Clemens; this mill continued to be used until 1907 when it was replaced by a newer plant that still exists today under new ownership and renamed as Sibley Mill Company. In 1855-1856 Wm Hennepin organized a company for carrying on agricultural operations west of Detroit; this company became known as The Michigan Central Railroad (MCRR). In 1861, Gurdon White purchased 1,000 acres (50 km2), east of present-day Mount Clemens along Huron River for $5 per acre ($1 million equivalent today). This land became known as White's Meadow after Gurdon White's purchase. It wasn't until 1865 when entrepreneur Moses Lake began working on developing what would become downtown Mount Clemens area into an important commercial hub that he decided to change its name to Mount Clemens proper in honor of his hometown.
