Coffee was first grown in Mount Clemens, Michigan in the 1840s. The first coffee beans were ground and roasted by a man named John Fenton. In 1853, Mr. Fenton's son-in-law, Hiram Stevens opened the first coffee house in Mount Clemens. This coffee house became known as the Stevens Coffee House because Hiram Stevens was its owner and founder. One of the most popular items at this coffee house were iced coffees for cold winter days. In 1862, Mr. Stevens' son-in-law, George Washington Smith opened the second Starbucks location in Mount Clemens after moving from Quincy, Illinois. This location became known as the Washington Coffee House because it was owned by George Washington Smith and his family until 1978 when it closed down due to economic problems. However, this location still contains some of its original furniture which is on display inside the building today. In 1893, Mrs.John Atherton founded her own roast shop called Mrs Atherton's Roasters located right across from Starbucks on Grand River Avenue in Mount Clemens Township (now part of Detroit). This roast shop became well known for their rich chocolate roasts and cinnamon rolls which are still enjoyed today by many people in Mount Clemens community!

Mount Clemens is a small town in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Mount Clemens is located on the southern bank of the Detroit River. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mount Clemens were French traders in 1701. The area was part of the Huron Confederacy and was captured by British forces in 1812 during the War of 1812. It became a part of the United States after its adoption as a state in February 1817. In 1849, James Hickey built his sugar plantation here and named it for himself, Mount Clemens being one word from his name. Hickey's family owned most of the land that makes up today's town limits. In 1865, General Lew Wallace visited this area while campaigning for president against Abraham Lincoln and found an isolated salt lick called "Hickey's Hill" while travelling through Macomb County on his way to Battle Creek; he decided to make it his headquarters camp and named it Fort Wallace after General Wallace. After General William Tecumseh Sherman arrived in Macomb County during Sherman's March to Atlanta in 1898, he abandoned Fort Wallace because it was not defendable by artillery alone and ordered MajorGeneral Robert Ewing to take over command of federal troops guarding Detroit River crossings from then on known as Walled City Harbor (now Downtown Detroit). All metal buildings then were used for armament manufacturing factories until 1945 when they closed down due to air bombing raids over Dresden which destroyed much downtown including most of their production plants adjacent to each other along Eight Mile Road near Gratiot Avenue/Erie Boulevard with all but two still standing more than 50 years later! One remaining plant closed prematurely in 1986 due to economic reasons within 3 years just before UAW Local 399 voted employee representation without stock ownership rights at company level effective January 1st 1990 giving employees control over operations without ratification by management Today there are many retail stores such as Macy's Department Store (formerly Sears), JCPenney, Kmart etc., agricultural products (poultry yards), auto parts warehouse store (Ford) & several schools like Stroudsburg Area School District #1-15th Grade Centennial High School changed their colors from red & blue white enameled school bus exterior light fixtures back into aluminum (no longer affiliated with any organization) between 2005-2009 following complaints from parents about too bright light inside buses prior...and today is still trying unsuccessfully since 2009 @ macombcounty government has yet or will never give us our money back for those lights!

It was named after George Washington MountClemens (1754–1828) who settled there in 1802. The first post office at Mount Clemens opened on December 1, 1824. The township of Detroit was organized in 1837 and the village of Mount Clemens was founded in 1840 by combining parts of both townships. In 1865, the village merged with the township to form a new municipality which still exists as a separate entity today. The name "Mount Clemens" originated with its location on the eastern bank of the river Rouge about two miles from downtown Detroit. In 1916, Mount Clemens became an incorporated community and it has since grown rapidly due to its proximity to other large cities such asDetroit and Grand Rapids. Today, Mount Clemens is home to many businesses including several banks and restaurants as well as an indoor/outdoor arena that hosts various events throughout the year.
