Monroe, Michigan is known as the "City of Lakes" for a reason. The city has over 20 lakes and it is home to the Monroe County National Guard Armory. The armory was founded in 1892 and served as the primary armory for the Monroe County Sheriff's Department until 1954. It has also been used by the local military since 1898. The first American Army unit stationed in Monroe was the 9th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment which arrived in late 1892. The regiment was attached to General George Armstrong Custer's 10th Cavalry Brigade during his ill-fated Campaign of 1894-1895. In 1918, General John J. Pershing activated the 4th Division of the United States Army Reserve under command of Major General William Tatham to serve in World War I on troops stationed in Canada and Europe. In 1924, when Michigan became a state, existing militia units were consolidated into new permanent military units called "the State Guard." The 1st Battalion, Michigan National Guard (now part of the Indiana National Guard) was activated at this time and moved from its original location at Lansing Community College to Armory Square near downtown Monroe in 1925. On October 15, 1938, President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which ordered all Japanese Americans living within commuting distance of Pearl Harbor be rounded up and sent to concentration camps without due process or trial. As a result of this order, more than 100 people died as a direct result of roundup operations conducted by U S Army Forces Far East Command that began on December 6th

Monroe is a town in the southeast corner of Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit–Warren Metropolitan Statistical Area. Monroe is known for its peach orchards and apple trees, as well as its annual Christmas parade. The area now comprising Monroe was first settled by Native Americans in the 1800s. In 1825, a post office called "Monroe" was founded by James Kapp and others on what is now US-23 south of downtown Detroit. In 1829, the name was changed to "Monroe Township." The township's first store opened in 1830. In 1836, Monroe Township became part of Oakland County. A new courthouse was built in 1840 and named for General Lewis Cass; it burned down in 1865. The village of Monroe developed around this courthouse site until it ceased operations in 1911 when World War I destroyed most of Oakland County's infrastructure. On November 1, 1875, Henry Ford received his congressional appointment as a delegate from Monroe Township to represent Wayne County on the House District 25 seat being vacated by John Dingell (D-Detroit). On December 10th he took his oath of office at City Hall and went into action immediately upon taking office which included organizing Michigan’s five Indian reservations into tribal governments through an act passed by Congress on December 2nd that year: In these years—1875-77—Henry Ford had been one hundred percent successful with all his proposers for various measures dealing with Indian Affairs which were then before Congress under consideration either for passage or amendment but no success had ever been obtained till this time because every man who proposed anything got laughed out of doors unless he could bring himself to be identification with some organization such as Kipling’s “Dalmatian Dog” Lodge No., No., No., each one representing about three thousand men skilled labourers interested chiefly in agriculture and their families living among them without any contribution whatever from those within whose limits they resided politically speaking although they voted regularly in proportion to their number within that district during previous terms while Mr. Dingell represented only one tenth so many people packed together inside an area measuring less than one square mile compared to an area more than four times that size containing over two million people both white and black! Therein lay your answer not only to but also underlying all other questions put forth by me during my term heretofore including those connected with Interior Affairs but you would never have guessed it if you had not seen it written up actually on Government paper where everything discussed therein has been made available free to everyone since day one! This act creating tribal governments caused Indians throughout Michigan to become more united especially after feelings started building up among them about how unfairly their lands were being taken away et cetera etc etc… finally upon my leaving office on January 3rd following two years long service thereon I retired effective March 3rd having fulfilled all requirements set for me except membership dues required by law since I left government service without receiving even a cent) After leaving government service Henry Ford became president of Dearborn Engineering Company where he remains today earning over $100M per year! He has always been very open about his business background telling reporters recently “I never wanted any money from corporations other than helping people and making sure they did good things right” After retiring from Dearborn Engineering Company Henry Ford moved back home to start another engineering company which still exists today – Henry Ford Motor Company – located just east of downtown Detroit across Woodward Avenue from Gratiot Avenue Theatre
