The school operated for several years until 1875, when it was moved to a new building on the current site of the Marquette University campus. In 1925, the society again organized a gunsmithing school, this time at the university. The school operated until 1951 when it was closed due to lack of students. The last class taught at the school was in 1965. Today, there is still agunsmithing school located on campus at Marquette University that teaches aspiring firearm owners how to restore and maintain their rifles and shotguns. Additionally, there are numerous museums and libraries throughout town that offer researchers access to various firearms from different periods of history.

In 1880, the village merged with the town of East Lansing to form the city of Lansing. By 1912, there were 21 residents living in Marquette Township.
The Marquette Mining and Manufacturing Company was founded in 1892 by John D. Rockefeller, father of the Standard Oil company. The company was a major player in the early days of Michigan's mining industry. It supplied miners with coal, silver, gold, and other minerals for use in manufacturing products such as cars and appliances. In 1925, the company merged with three other mining companies to form the Rockefeller-owned Marquette Mining Corporation.
