The Marine Corps has been deployed in many different places around the world since it was founded in 1802. One of the most recent deployments for the Marines was to Livonia, Michigan in 2009. This deployment is significant because it is the first time that the Marines have stationed here in Livonia since World War II. The Marines have a long history of giving back to their community and this deployment is no exception. Since 9/11, donations from civilians and military members have helped to support various charities throughout Livonia. This year, specifically, there were contributions totaling $5,000 made to numerous local charities by both individuals and units of the Marines. Livonia, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Ottawa River. The population was 32,906 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in the Wolverine State after Detroit. Livonia is also home to Grand Valley State University and Wayne County Community College. Livonia is named for Colonel Augustus Fowlkes Livny (1765–1841), an officer in General Joseph Brant's army during the War of 1812 who later served as United States Minister to Russia and then as United States Consul at Saint Petersburg. Livonia was first settled by Canadian fur traders in 1800s and became a town in 1827 when its post office was established there. It grew rapidly due to its location on one of several key steamboat routes connecting eastern Canada with the midwestern United States. In 1881, it became a village charter member of the City of Detroit; however, it reverted to township status within Detroit's limits until 1951 when it regained its municipality status within Livonia's boundaries. During World War II, Livonia played a significant role as an industrial center for Ford Motor Company with plants manufacturing trucks, planes and tanks; among these were Dearborn Heights Arsenal which produced fighter planes and bombers for Bomber Command RAF from 1942-1945 and Nagasaki plutonium plant where uranium enrichment took place from 1945-1948 . The war destroyed many factories but also created some jobs such as those at Ford’s Rouge River Rouge Plant which built cars starting in 1936 until 1970 - this plant employed more than 60% American workers before closing down following Japanese bombing raids in 1945 . Afterward many local businesses went out of business including Paper Mill #1 which closed down in 1958 because of low demand for paper products after Aluminum Extrusions stopped production there too because aluminum prices had increased so much since Hiroshima/Tokyo bombings

Livonia is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Livonia Township. It lies on the western shore of Lake Huron, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Detroit and 30 miles (48 km) south-southwest of Grand Rapids. As of 2011, it had a population of 126,674 people. Livonia was founded in 1824 by settlers from Wales as an agricultural town on the east side of what is now Detroit Lakeshore Boulevard. The first store was opened in 1827 by John Biggers, who named it for his Welsh home village Llanelli near Bangor. The town became known as "The Athens Of The Great Lakes" because many Georgian-style homes were built there during that era. By 1840, most people living in Livonia had come to work on farms within a few miles of the town; however, support for a permanent city grew until it was realized in 1845 when Horace Greeley proposed that a new township be formed south of the river with its own government and police force; this proposal was accepted and huge amounts of land were purchased from farmers to form what is now Livonia Township. In 1847–1848, construction began on what is now City Hall—one of democracy's earliest examples in America—and soon after other buildings such as churches and hotels followed suit. When recreational opportunities became available at nearby Assiniboine River Park during the late 19th century through improved transportation systems like trains and automobiles, Livonia quickly emerged as one of North America's leading communities for boating and swimming; today it remains one of Canada's most popular summer tourist destinations thanks to its beautiful beaches backed by crystal-clear waters devoid OF algae or sea glass In 1954, suburban residents beganorosing into their newly created townships westward along I-94 rather than remaining within Livonia Township limits where they voted overwhelmingly not to give up their property values just so they could live closer to downtown but still keep their close ties with their old friends In 2000, then Mayor Dwight Cavanaugh submitted legislation designating September 11th weekend as National District Day in honor bothof our great United States Cities – Detroit & Livonia! Livonia is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the border of Ontario and Michigan counties. The population was 27,781 at the 2010 census, making Livonia one of the most populous cities in Michigan. Livonia lies just east of Detroit, across the river from Ann Arbor. The city was founded in 1837 by German settlers as Lavinia Township on land leased from Tecumseh County by United States troops during the American Civil War. In 1871, it became a separate municipality with its own government and name. In 1898, Livonia was incorporated as a city under the name of Detroit Heights due to strong growth in auto manufacturing there following World War I. The transformation of Detroit Heights into a city led to major job losses for many residents and caused some resentment within their community over what they saw as an unfair advantage given to Detroit over them economically. Livonia's economy has slowly recovered since 2000s recession when strict zoning laws made it difficult for businesses to expand or open up new locations outside of downtown; however this has not prevented several high-end restaurants and hotels from opening up shop in recent years despitelivonia's lack of infrastructure
