In 1948, the American Coffee Corporation merged with the National Coffee Association to form the National Coffee Co., Incorporated. The company ceased operations in 1982.
Livonia, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 26,898 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in the State of Michigan and the largest in Eaton County. Livonia is also one of five cities included in The City of Detroit metropolitan area. The land that now makes up Livonia was first settled by Native Americans in 1794 as part of an effort to avoid French Canadian traders from becoming dominant on the Great Lakes region. The town site was chosen because it had ample water resources and would be safe from British attacks while still being accessible by wagon train travelers moving through these areas during their trek westward across North America. In 1824, while awaiting construction of what would become Fort Wayne on Lake Erie, General George Washington's topographical survey team discovered a large tract of land lying east of present-day Livonia on what is now parts of Monroe Township and Clinton Township - this became known as Pontiac Township after General Anthony Wayne's successful war with France for control over Canada's Upper Great Lakes region (the Treaty of Paris ended that conflict). In 1826, Washington designated Livonia as the county seat for Western Cassia County; however, this designation only applied to Monroe and Clinton Townships until 1829 when they were united into Livonia County under then-Governor John D'Ascanio. Livonia was founded as a village by Methodist missionaries led by Reverend James Dixon in 1831 following a preaching journey from Battle Creek to western Michigania via Mackinac Island and Green Bay Rapids on the upper Michigan Peninsula (today's Superior Harbor). Dixon named his new settlement "Livonia" after wife Pollyanna Hale (1792–1847), daughter of Englishman Jonathan Hale (1768–1851) and his American wife Rachel Ann Oldham (1787–1849). Livonia, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the county seat of Livonia County. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 61,285. The communities within Livonia are all located on or near the Flint River which forms its border with Detroit to the south and east and Ann Arbor to the north. Livonia was founded in 1824 by Nicholas Biddle as a town on the west bank of the Flint River opposite Dearborn Heights (now part of Cadillac). In 1827, Biddle donated what is now downtown Livonia to become an independent city under charter granted by Governor George Prentice. The first mayor was John Auld and City Council members were: Isaac Norris, James Kempton, John Sprague (2nd), Ebenezer Kemble (3rd), Christopher Comstock (4th) Samuel Gregg (5th), Nathaniel Drake and Amos Witherspoon. From 1827-1836 it was part of Washtenaw County; from 1840-1868 it was in Oakland County.
