In 1922, the first law enforcement gift in Kentwood was a revolver. The gift was given to patrolman John Fenton by his predecessor, Capt. George H. Dement. The revolver was made of brass and had a walnut grips. It served as the foundation for the current police gift history in Kentwood. In 1964, Sgt. Leroy Kapp donated a rifle to the department along with five rounds of ammunition and an informative booklet on law enforcement titled "A Guide to Law Enforcement." That same year, Lt. Willis Crouch gifted a bulldog named 'Smiley' with a service pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition as part of his donation to the department's firearmsowment fund. In 1984, Sgt. Donny Sprague gave away two shotguns and three revolvers as gifts to the department's shooting range in memory of his late father, Deputy Sheriff Don Sprague Sr.. In 1998, Sgt. Tom Dempsey gifted two handguns and 100 rounds each of Ammunition to help improve officer safety on duty throughout the county during Michigan State Police officer training exercises at Clinton Township High School gymnasiums across Washtenaw County

Kentwood is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Upper Peninsula of the northcentral region of the United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Kentwood were farmers who arrived in 1834 from Holland and North Dakota. They named their community after one of their brothers, Samuel Kenton, an American Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Continental Congress from New York City. In 1847, they erected a small log courthouse which served as judicial center for all rural areas east of Jackson Heights until it burned down in 1851. In 1861 when Michigan became a U.S. state, Kentwood was incorporated as a town by act of its residents; it had no voting power until 1917 when it became an unincorporated city with full voting rights under state law A new hotel was built on State Street in downtown Kentwood in 1905 and remains active today as The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.. In 1916, construction began on what would become known as "the world's largest concrete water tower" – now called "the giant" – which would provide water to local farms and homes through a pipeline extending beneath Main Street into Township Park Reservoir near Hudsonville. The tower reached its height of 231 feet (70 m) above mean sea level in 1935; however due to weather conditions and corrosion problems, it stopped operating entirely in 1963 despite being mentioned twice (in 1957 and 1964) by then-Mayor John Larkin during his mayoral campaign against incumbent Alderman James Pappas

Kentwood is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about 25 miles southwest of Ann Arbor and 17 miles northeast of Detroit. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. It was named for General David Kent (1796-1868), who fought in the War of 1812 and later served as a U.S. senator from Michigan. The first settlers arrived in what is now Kentwood around 1800, and by 1827 there were 8 houses in the community. The town began to grow rapidly during the 1830s, thanks to increased trade with neighboring towns such as Sterling Heights and Cadillac. By 1840, there were 24 residents living in Kentwood; it had become a large enough place that it was annexed by Ann Arbor in 1849. In 1907, following the annexation of other nearby villages, Kentwood became one of only two communities in Michigan without its own school district; it merged with nearby Sterling Heights to form the new Sterling Heights–Kentwood School District on July 1, 1912). During World War II, many American soldiers stationed at military bases near Ann Arbor enlisted in local companies formed to support local munitions factories; these companies were known as "army units" or "army battalions." One such battalion was called "The Kents," after General David Kent's regiment which fought against British forces during the war. The battalion earned numerous distinctions including being mentioned in despatches and being awarded two Bronze Stars for heroism while serving within Dearborn County's 12th Infantry Regiment during 1944-1945. Today, much of what once constituted General David Kent's rural community remains within present-dayKentwood: most notably his farmstead where he lived until his death in 1968; his house which still stands today (although recently renovated and enlarged); as well as several blocks surrounding his property line which are home to various businesses including an auto dealership and a convenience store/cafeteria combo restaurant currently operated by Pinnacle Foods Inc.; all dating back to before 1914 when general area land purchased from previous owner Elisha Whitehead included this parcel along with others now located east of I-75 between mile marker 248 & 249 across from current day Walmart Supercenter lot #2256
