The Coast Guard Gift History in Kentwood, Michigan began with the establishment of the Coast Guard Station in 1901. From that time until 1969, the Coast Guard gift shop was located at Camp Stonington on the water front. In 1969, the Commandant’s House was built on Route 9 and became the Headquarters for The Coast Guard District of Michigan. The Commandant’s House was later renamed to Headquarters Building and is currently used as a school administrative building. The first gift from a governmental body to an individual or family member serving within The Coast Guard District of Michigan came in 1903 when Rear Admiral John H. Fenton presented Benjamin J. Perry with a set of seals and insignias for use as a soldier in The United States Marine Corps Reserve Officers Training School at Annapolis Junction, Maryland. That same year, Rear Admiral Fenton also presented Captain Francis Prentice with a compass watch and chain link monogrammed service medal for personal use while he served as commanding officer ofcutter USS Enterprise (CGN-8). In 1918, Commodore Arthur Wickersham donated two lifejackets to be worn by officers assigned to duty aboard shipboard lifesaving stations along the Great Lakes shoreline; these were given back to their donors after service had ceased on board ship. In 1941, Commodore Isaac Sennett donated an intricately carved mastodon figurehead named “Aggie” which stood 12 feet tall inside an artifical reef off Mackinac Island National Monument; this gift was later added to the National Museum of American History collection. On July 8th, 1962, Commodore Harry Nourse gifted his homeboat “HMS Osprey (LNX-5)” to be used as lifeboat station No 1 on Lake Superior; this donation has been continued by other members of The Coast Guard District during different times periods including 1976 when Homebrew Radio Corporation donated twelve antique radios belonging to Commander Allan Coffman (USNR), 1983 when Naval Surface Warfare Group 3 donor USS Triton (LPD-7) received her new diesel engine house and large propeller storage yard addition; 2007 when USNS Coral Sea(LPH-9) received her new command center afloat adjacent her old dry dock area; and most recently 2006 when USNS Theodore Roosevelt(LHA-6) receive her brand new superstructure complete with air conditioning/heating system aft Muggeridge Pier! These gifts have helped make Seaside Heights one of the most vibrant communities within our district!

Kentwood is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Upper Peninsula of the Great Lakes region. The population was 9,735 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Washtenaw County metropolitan area and is located about 30 miles (48 km) east of Lansing. The first Europeans to visit what is now Kentwood were French fur traders in 1696 when they explored what is now Muskegon Heights and found a rich forested area with many large hills that made for good hunting grounds. The first permanent settler in what is now Kentwood was Nicholas Putnam from Hartford, Connecticut in 1797. He built a small cabin on his land which he named after his father-in-law, John Putnam JR., who had settled in that area some years before him. In 1806, Joseph Griggs bought putnam's cabin and continued to live there until his death in 1836; then he sold it to John Ahern who lived there until 1840 when he moved to Sault Ste Marie, Michigan because of health problems caused by yellow fever contracted while working as an overseer on a plantation near Sault Ste Marie. An act of Congress passed March 3, 1837 designated part of present day Muskegon Heights as "Kentwood" in honor of General James Kempton who fought during the War of 1812 at Mackinac Island where he lost an arm and several legs due to wounds received from an Indian chief’s arrow. General Kempton’s remains are interred at nearby Mount angels Cemetery next to USS Constitution Museum which also contains General James Kempton’s cannons which served during the war off Mackinac Island! In 1861, followingthe American Civil War, Kentwood became part of new Washtenaw County when it was organized out of portions of Grand Haven Township and Flint Township westward from Detroit City Limits; however much later it reverted back to its original township status within Washtenaw County until 1959 when it became a city again! In 1925 it annexed parts of Houghton Township northward including present day Muskegon Heights! On July 1st 1907 alledgedly due only to lack evidence (no arrests or charges) Mayor J C Kennedy ordered demolitionof entire blacksmith shop(a local landmark for more than 100 years), buildingsnbouses adjoiningitandall trees adjoining themwithout any prior warningor public hearing whatsoever!! This action instantly removed one key factor supporting commercial activity & community life within this historic district& virtually destroyed important cultural heritage

Kentwood, Michigan is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan that was founded in 1839. The population was 706 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine metropolitan area. The town is named for George Washington Kent, who donated land to make it a settlement. The first settlers arrived in 1839, and by 1850, there were six buildings in the town. By 1860, there were twenty-eight businesses in town and one school. In 1870, the first railroad passed through Kentwood and it became an agricultural community with over thirty farms and thirteen churches. In 1902, two brothers named John Slingerland bought a large tracts of land east of present-day Kentwood and began developing it into what is now downtown Kentwood. They named their development "Downtown." Downtown has become one of Michigan's most popular tourist destinations due to its views of downtown Lansing and five other villages: Westville, Albion Heights (now Allendale), Eastpointe (now Kalamazoo), Northville (now Novi), and Old Bethpage (now Garden City). Downtown also contains several restaurants including Park Tavern which opened its doors on Main Street in 1925; The Gilded Cage which served as the first commercial building built in downtown Kentwood; The Fenton House which served as the first tavern on Dearborn Avenue; Just American Diner; Harry's Barbecue & Brewery;and many more since then!
