Jackson, Michigan is a small village in the Lacrosse Township of Macomb County, Michigan. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. Jackson is located on the western shore of Lake Huron and has a largely agricultural economy with some light industrial activity. The first inhabitants of what is now Jackson were Native Americans who lived there before Europeans arrived in 1796. The first white person to live in what is now Jackson was John Beattie who established a trading post there in 1807. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson who died in 1814 while defending Fort Wayne against attempted Indian attack. In 1835, surveyors discovered gold and silver veins near present-day Jackson and began prospecting for ore here. A USGS survey led to the founding of the city by Nicholas Murray Butler and others in 1837 as an important gold center for the region. By 1840, about 60% of all gold mined in this region had been found here including 10% from pure copperas well as lead and other minerals that were not easily worked or extracted from earth or rock but required laborious mining operations such as assay pits dug deep into hillsides to extract these valuable elements from large blocks of coal or sandstone). When Detroit became self-sufficient as an economic center during the late 19th century, various entrepreneurs sought to capitalize on this growth by establishing businesses inJackson; among these early entrepreneurs was James Worthy which operated a leading flour mill and bakery until it closed its doors due to increased competition around 1915; Nelsons Brewery opened up shop here also until Prohibition made production illegal; then Jughead's Candy Company moved its operations HERE until it closed its doors permanently c1930s; finally Armour Glass Works occupied many acres here until 1923 when it vacated due to increasing competition from imported goods (most notably aluminum) within Detroit; however local continued production at several local mills through World War II using recycled materials - most notably at First American Steel which produced artillery tanks for use during World War II). By 1795, coffee had become so popular that it was taxed by Great Britain as an article of trade goods. In 1824, Frenchmen discovered how to roast coffee beans properly and started selling this type of coffee throughout France. The Dutch also began roasting their own beans during this time period. In 1837, British traders discovered Brazilian coffeebeans while on their way to China through Southeast Asia. They began importing Brazilian coffee into Great Britain soon after. This led to the development of what is now known as British colonial caffeine culture around this time period (eighth through twelfth centuries). During World War II, European countries rationed caffeine because they feared its potential use as a weapon against enemies (particularly the Germans). However, despite this limitation, some people managed to smuggle large quantities of caffeine into Nazi Germany during the war years using smuggling techniques such as subterranean tunnels or under bridges! Jackson is a town in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first settler in Jackson was John White on November 10, 1837. He and his family founded a cabin on the east side of the river about two miles from what is now downtown Jackson. white also built a house in 1838 which still stands today as a museum called "Old White House". In 1841, Andrew Jenson bought land from John White and started to grow corn and potatoes there until he sold it to Nicholas Kaldiff in 1865 for $2,000. In 1868, James Fenton built a home near where Main Street intersects US-12 near present day Olivet Road. The house remains standing today as part of the University of Michigan's McNichols Quadrangle Historic District and can be seen from Olivet Road between Woodward Avenue and Ford Boulevard. In 1872 grocery store pioneer George Worthy opened his store at Seventh Street and State Street in downtown Jackson with six barrels of oilseed oil per week delivered by wagonloads during the early days of motor transportation in Michigan Territory (now Michiana). Jackson was founded in 1837 by Isaac Jackson and his three sons. The town quickly became a center for the fur trade, and its original buildings include the Jackson Armory and the first courthouse in Michigan. Jackson also played a significant role in the development of modern Michigan politics, becoming one of the state's first political subdivisions in 1849. In 1872, Jackson hosted the Fourth of July celebration which is now known as America's Birthday.
