The Jackson Air National Guard Station (AIS) was established in 1942 as a wartime relocation center forAAF personnel and their families. The AIS served as the primary airbase for the bomber unit, Ninth Air Force, during World War II. In 1947, the AIS became the national military headquarters ofthe United States Air Force. In 1949, an expansion project began on the base which would result in the construction of a new wing and control tower. The new wing was dedicated on July 24th, 1950. With its dedication came an increased role for AIS within USAF culture. In 1957, General Curtis LeMay inserted into USAF policy Directive 5100 which called for more heavy bombers being stationed atAIS to support strategic bombing missions over Russia. In 1961-1963 two projects were completed at AIS; one was the installation of a missile launcher system and another was expansion of the medical facilities to include a hospitalette style campground and restaurant known as Eberhart Field Campground and Restaurant (EFC). The Warton family purchased land adjacent to EFC in 1954 from Drury Land Company after they lost their quarry lease near Royal Oak. They named their property EBERHART FIELD CAMPING AND RESTAURANT after Major General Wilbur Eberhart who commanded American forces in Europe during World War II and later became Director of Military Personnel in DCRFHQ under President Harry Truman. The Warton family continued to operate EBERHART FIELD CAMPING AND RESTAURANT until it closed in 1978 due to budget cuts by then USAF Commander General Brehon Sibley which also impacted other USAF installations including JAX AFB
Jackson, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the seat of Macomb County. The population was 21,451 at the 2010 census. The name "Jackson" comes from Andrew Jackson, who served as the 25th president of the United States from 1829 to 1837 and as a member of both houses of Congress from 1785 to 1789. The first European settlers in what would become Macomb County were French trappers and traders who arrived in what is now Midland Township in 1795. By 1800, there were about seventy-five people living here, most of whom were farmers or mechanics. But by 1830, when American Revolutionary War veteran General James Kneeland moved his family to this area, many others had followed him into what would become Jackson Township. Kneeland's settlement proved successful and soon other settlers began arriving - including John Beattie in 1827 and John Cochran in 1830 - which led to the development of a small town here known as "The Village." But it wasn't until 1840 that Jackson became an official community with achool, library, post office and jail/prison all built within its borders within six years... something unheard of then or today! Over time however even more businesses opened up here - such as breweries (the first being tapped here on July 4th, 1847), banks (the first bank opening in Macomb County was the National Currency Bank on Main Street) and lumber mills (the first sawmill being built here was called the North Star). Today we still boast some very early 20th century gems like Main Street Methodist Church - founded in 1893 – which has been preserved for tourism purposes; or Slaughter House 2 – one of only two operational slaughterhouses left in America – which you can visit today!

Jackson, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, located on the east bank of the Black River. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Jackson were French traders and missionaries who came in 1795–96. Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette explored the upper peninsula in 1799 and named it after his friend and mentor, James Jackson (1727–1805). In 1807, General Anthony Wayne founded Fort Dearborn on the site of present-day Detroit, which served as a military base for Indian Wars between 1812 and 1815. The town of Jackson was laid out by commissioners from Fort Dearborn in January 1809. It became an incorporated village on July 6, 1811. In 1830, General David Dixon constructed a sawmill here that continues to operate to this day. In 1840, Jackson became part of what is now Monroe County when it was organized from part of Kalamazoo County. At time it had a population of only 350 people; today its population reaches 535 people due to influences such as agriculture and auto manufacturing that have persists into the 21st century. Jackson played an important role during both World War I and II; throughout these years large numbers of soldiers barracks were built here including Camp Victory (later Camp McNair) which housed up to 3,000 troops during World War I; Camp Mackliny (later Camp George Custer) which housed up to 2,500 troops during World War II; as well as several other camps across the country used for training soldiers for both wars. Jackson was founded in 1835 by Andrew Jackson. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1837, and by 1840 it had a population of over 1000 people. By 1865, however, Jackson had shrunk to just 100 citizens. In 1935, Jackson was merged with neighboring village of Holland into the new city of Holland-on-the-Wabash.
