In 1821, a company was formed in New York City with the goal of exporting Dutch-style coffee to America. Holland is a small town in the lower Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids-Mecosta-Battle Creek metropolitan area. Holland is located on the east bank of the Kawkawa River, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Grand Rapids and 30 miles (48 km) south of Mecosta. The settlement was founded in 1835 by Adam J. Holland and his family as a fur trading post on what is now White Cloud Road. In 1839, it became a village when all but six residents joined together to form a town charter. The first Postmaster General for Michigan was from Holland, and he also served as Mayor from 1861 to 1865. The village gradually lost its importance until it was merged into Grand Rapids in 1957; however, remnants of Dutch culture can still be seen today in some community activities such as agriculture and grocery stores. In addition to its Dutch heritage, Holland has a strong German presence which has been evident since early days when many farmers were immigrants from that country seeking work opportunities in America’s new republic. Today, Holland continues to celebrate its Dutch cultural roots with annual events such as the Dutch Festival and carnival throughout the summer months while continuing to rely heavily on services provided by local businesses including several banks and several insurance companies which have their headquarters hereabouts along with other major employers like HVAC contractor Ameritech plc., Ford Motor Co., Pioneer Glass Works Inc., Diamond Balloons & More Inc., among others.

Holland is a town in northern Michigan, United States. The population was 3,744 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Holland County. The first Europeans to visit the area were traders and fur trappers from Siberia who made their way down the Mackinac River in 1809. A post office was established in1812, and by 1828 there were over 100 residents in what is now Holland. The village of Holland Landing was founded on the east side of the river by John Sutherlin in 1836 as a landing for packets of goods caught between Detroit and Chicago. In 1840, an act was passed by Congress that created Jackson County, which included present-day Holland Township; it named also for General Andrew Jackson (1767-1845). By 1850, there were 1,500 people living in Holland Township and 2 miles downstream of what is now downtown Lansing. In 1855, King George III granted land to James Kappner along with 4 others for a experimental farm settlement known as "Holland Patent." This became permanent when Kappner sold his interest to Michigan State University in 1915. The university has since developed much of the land within current-day Holland limits including its main campus on Fort Myers Road just south of I-475 and across from Dequindre Lake oval golf course; former research facilities on various campuses including Van Andel Hall on Woodward Avenue near I-225; and several dozen small businesses clustered around Kappner's Prairie du Chien farmstead dating back to before World War II. In 1923, trustees voted not to annex rural Potter township into Holland but instead create a new town called Hillsboro within potter township limits instead due primarily to concerns about traffic congestion within potter township while Hillsboro would be self-sufficient with its own economy and school system without any ties to neighboring townships or counties. There are still remnants today of both villages - hillsboro features two ZIP codes - although Hillsborough has since annexed much more populated areas including most recently East Lansing Heights which lies adjacent to Middletown Charter School District #2 just north of I-275 exit number 129B/I-696 exit number 232A/I+1A off Hwy 24W (now Rte 248)
