The Michigan National Guard has been in Hazel Park, Michigan for over 100 years. The unit was first organized on December 12th, 1892 as the 15th Infantry Regiment. On November 5th, 1907 the regiment was re-organized and redesignated as the 9th Infantry Regiment. On October 3rd, 1912 the regiment was mobilized and assigned to District 2 of the Federal Reserve District. The regiment participated in World War I and served as a field artillery battalion until September 1917 when it was transferred to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion of Division IV (later 1st Army) at Krakow, Poland. In February 1919 the regiment returned to Detroit where it remained until May 1929 when it transferred back to the Federal Reserve District and was redesignated as Company C of Battery A (2nd Local Field Artillery). Company C moved to Hazel Park on July 1st, 1929 and became part of Battery A which still uses that name today.
Hazel Park is a town in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 10,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. Hazel Park is located on the east side ofOakland County and is bordered by Farmington Hills to the north, Royal Oak to the northeast, Sterling Heights to the southeast, and Ferndale to the south. According to one source,[1] Hazel Park was founded in 1837 as a small village on a bend in the Lapeer River by John A. Huffman and his family. In 1841 it became an incorporated town after being chosen from among several submitted proposals. The first post office was opened in 1845. According to another source,[2] Hazel Park's incorporation took place on July 1, 1847; however, this claim may be spurious as no record of incorporation exists with that date or any later one. By 1860 there were 7 businesses operating in town including three grocery stores, two blacksmiths/, hairdressers/, and a wagon factory/wagon works run by David Younker and his brother-in-law George Haggerty;[3][4] however, within ten years all but two of those businesses have gone out of business or been replaced by modern successors.[5][6] The opening of what would become Dearborn Street through downtown Hazel Park on November 15th 1886 brought new life and vitality not only to what had been an old farming community but also to what would become one of America's most important automotive centers during World War II due largely to its participation in Ford Motor Company's National Defense Arsenal research program which produced Lake City-class submarines (the first such vessels built outside North America).[7][8] As stated by historian Charles Ebert: "In other words...it was here that Henry Ford came up with his car - probably at Dearborn Street...It wasn't until 1941 that Chevrolet began production here."[9][10][11] During World War II over 2 million cars were made at Dearborn Street plant alone[12]. More than half a million manufacturing jobs directly related to war production were created here including more than 350 truck plants employing up to 100 thousand people total (100% American), along with 50 machine shops making aircraft parts,[13],[14][15],[16], 75 Foundry companies making munitions (including 20 for Halliburton), 25 chemical plants making explosives (including 5 for United Chemical Works), 5 shipyards producing tanks and other armored vehicles,[17],[18], 9 aviation manufacturers building planes like Liberator bombers and P-38 Thunderbolts[19], 20 tool & die makers developing innovative new products for military use such as Bakelite®, MPT®, etc., etc.[20], 12 printing presses developing new types of paper ballots used throughout WWII cludng Postmaster General James Byrnes' secret Voting Machine Program - settinga standard which has been followed ever since!

Hazel Park is a small town in the northern Michigan county of Ottawa County, located on the western shore of Lake Superior. The community was founded in 1871 by pioneer settlers, primarily from Ireland and Scotland. Hazel Park was originally named "New Hazel" after a nearby grove of oak trees. It changed its name to Hazel Park in honor of then-Mayor George A. Hazel in 1915. The population reached 9,000 during the early 21st century and has since declined, reaching 7,500 as of 2017 according to the U.S. census. Hazel Park was first settled by Scotsmen following a survey conducted by Colonel John Graves Simcoe in 1813 (now it is located within Michigan). By 1871, however, most Irish settlers had already moved away because of difficult economic conditions at homecoming time following the potato famine that struck Ireland throughout much of 1848-1851. Most English speaking residents were German immigrants who had arrived during the late 1840s and early 1850s seeking new opportunities for their families in what was then territory controlled by Great Britain (the United States had been acquired via purchasing Columbia Territory from Mexico). The opening of the Sault Ste Marie Railroad in 1855 brought increased traffic and commerce to town which helped spur development over time including an increase in housing stock; 6 churches were built between 1870-1910 alone according to local historian Forrest Humes (in his book "A History Of Ottawa County"). Although many people continue to identify themselves as Canadians or Americans due largely to political differences ensuing from World War II (and subsequent immigration), there are actually several hundred direct descendants living here today who trace their ancestry back nearly 100 years or more - making this one of Canada's oldest continuous minority communities with significant cultural resources dating back even further than earlier British settlements such as Halifax Nova Scotia and Toronto Ontario. As settlement began expanding westward into Ottawa County towards Onondaga Lake via land purchases and donations over time including donation lands awarded through treaties with Native nations such as the Mikmaq - some believe that Hazel Park may have been founded specifically for this purpose since it would be situated adjacent to acreage presently reserved for agricultural use on what is now known as Indian Head Island off Georgian Bay.. In 1906, when Ontario became Canada's new province following Confederation, part of east central Michigan became included within Ottawa County becoming known officially as "Hazel Park". The original post office opened at 204 Maple St., which served both towns until 1955 when it relocated north across First Street into downtown where it continued serving until 1984 when service shifted again south across Elmwood Avenue into what is now known as Community Central Library/Museum complex.. In 1959 Mayor George A. Hazel donated all property comprising present day downtown streetscape along current First Street between State Road 472nd Avenue & Washington Boulevard Heights – currently occupied by parkingLot #1 off South Main Street – Descendants still call this stretch "George A." Place
