The Hazel Park Air Force Base was the first USAF installation in Michigan. It opened on February 1, 1948 and served as a headquarters for the winged bombardment units of the Seventh Air Force. The base closed on May 31, 1969 due to budget cuts. On July 10, 2006, it reopened as an air force garrison after being closed for more than a decade. The new garrison is home to the 309th Airlift Wing which provideslift services to other military installations and airports in Michigan.

Hazel Park is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,331 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights school district. The community was named for Hazel Grove, which was located to the east and north of it. The first settler in Hazel Park was Abram Hodge, who arrived in 1837. He built a log cabin on a hill near present-day Center Road and Maple Street. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location on Michigan's central railroads and its access to water supplies from two reservoirs on bluffs nearby. By 1920, Hazel Park had 1,500 residents and three churches - First Baptist (1896), Methodist Episcopal (1910) and United Methodist (1920). During World War II, Hazel Park became an important manufacturing center due to its production of rubber products such as tires and hoses. The war also brought about increased trade with neighboring towns such as Muskegon Heights, Canton Township and Detroit; this led to growth in businesses such as retail stores, restaurants and theaters within the limits of Hazel Park itself rather than scattered throughout Muskegon Heights or Canton Township

This firearm was donated by Colonel George Armstrong Custer, Jr. The military’s first jet fighter, the F-86 Sabre, was gifted to the USAF in 1948. In 1973, the USAF gifted a Boeing 747 airplane to Saudi Arabia as part of an effort to improve relationships between both countries. Finally, in 2015, it was announced that the USAF would give away its last 747 airplane – dubbed “Air Force One” – as a goodwill gesture to Japan and other countries affected by World War II.
