There were several points along that shoreline used for this purpose back then: 'Grand Rapids' stood for 'Greater Grand Rapids', while 'Point de la Rivière' represented what's now called Haggerty Island - much later known as Isabella Island - due to its proximity to both LakesHuron AND Mackinac Island! In spite of this early confusion among mapmakers...the name stuck!
