Grosse Pointe Park is a small community in the southwest corner of Michigan, located just east of Lansing. It has a population of about 3800 people and covers an area of only 2.6 square miles (6.1 sq km). Grosse Pointe Park was formed in 1881 when two brothers bought land from the Kapp family for $100. The original park had a golf course, tennis courts, playgrounds and a water tower. The first mayor was George Wickersham and the first treasurer was Augustus Saginaw. The community changed hands several times until it was purchased by John Dreyfus in 1928 for $205,000. Dreyfus started to build roads and other infrastructure in Grosse Pointe Park, including the current avenues such as Woodward Avenue and Washtenaw Avenue. He also built Stonington Hall which is now the home of Grosse Pointe Park High School. The town hall still stands today and can be seen from many parts of town including downtown Lansing and on Washtenaw Avenue between State Street and University Drive. In 1965 Grosse Pointe Park became NATO's smallest city by area when it merged with neighboring Ironwood Township to form the city of Warren-Grosvenor Heights within Wayne County. In 1998 Grosse Pointe Park lost its right to exist as an independent municipality due to lack of voter turnout so it merged into Warren-Grosvenor Heights again becoming one large city with over 900 residents within its boundaries

Grosse Pointe Park is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located on the western edge of Detroit, about 12 miles (19 km) south of the city center and about 15 miles (24 km) east of downtown Detroit. As of the 2010 census, its population was 66,609. Grosse Pointe Park was founded in 1875 as a settlement by French-Canadian settlers who had come to purchase land from the Peoria tribe in what is now Oakland County, Michigan. The name "Grosse Pointe" comes from a rocky point near where it lies today and means “large point” or “endpoint” in French. The first post office at Grosse Pointe Park opened on December 7, 1876. In 1877, Grosse Pointe Park became part of Wayne County when it was created from part of Oakland County. The first courthouse at Grosse Pointe Park opened on November 1, 1880 and served until 1915 when it was replaced by the present courthouse which still stands today. In 1911, Grosse Pointe Park was renamed after Admiral George Washington Ford because he donated $10,000 to help finance construction of a new baseball stadium there that would later be called Ford Field. That same year saw the opening of what is today known as Fordland Mall which housed many local businesses including Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Macy's Inc., and Kodak Corporation. In 1962, President John F Kennedy visited Grosse Pointe Park during his campaign for re-election and dedicated one end zone at Ford Field to him instead of playing inside Chicago's Soldier Field where he had been scheduled to play that day due to weather conditions outside Detroit Municipal Stadiums).
