In 1957, the Grandville Air Force Base donated its first jet fighter, which became known as “The Bomber” and helped contribute to United States aerial superiority in the Cold War. It wasn’t until 1992 that jets were stationed at Grandville AFB permanently, marking this institution as a permanent part of Michigan’s air force.

On December 14, 1861, during American Civil War efforts to gain control over northern Indiana Territory through military action known as Northern Indiana Campaign (), General Winfield Scott ordered Union forces to besiege Fort Dearborn (). The fort stood until destroyed by Confederate artillery on May 12, 1865. In 1898–1900 (during Grover Cleveland's second term), grand citizens petitioned for incorporation into City of Detroit but lost to an act passed by the Legislature creating Metro Detroit Area instead.

Grandville is a city in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. Grandville is the largest city in Washtenaw County and the second-largest city in the state of Michigan. It is located on the mouth of the Ottawa River, about 12 miles (19 km) north of Detroit and 10 miles (16 km) east of Ann Arbor. The first Europeans to visit what is now Grandville were French traders who came ashore in 1699 and 1698 for trade with Native Americans. The area was claimed by both France and Britain during the 18th century as part of separate treaties negotiated between these powers. In 1795, Grand Rapids was founded as a trading post on the river by fur traders from Michilimackinac Territory over which British control had been acquired after Canada won its independence from Great Britain. In 1812, when Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Russia, he ordered his army to invade Michigan but abandoned it before reaching Grand Rapids because he considered it too small an objective for such an extended campaign. When he returned later that year, however, he decided to attack Russian forces stationed at Detroit and moved his headquarters there instead. In 1825, General James Kalka arrived at Grand Rapids with 1,200 soldiers to suppress a slave uprising led by John Brown in nearby Apollo Township; Brown was killed during events following Kalka's landing.) For many years thereafter until 1861 when all U.S.–Canada border crossings were closed due to war conditions along the American side of Lake Huron (), Grosse Pointe Farms lay just beyond Michigan's eastern border at what is now Sault Ste Marie,. This area became known as "the land across the water." By 1870 more than half of present-day Dearborn Heights had been annexed into Grand Rapids while other areas including Midland Heights and Montaguetown continued to be part of Grosse Pointe Farms until they were detached from that township also in 1870 (). In 1898 Alanson Park was opened as one of several new parks developed around Belle Isle after renovations began on that island following approval by then-Governor George Romney ()–grandson of former President Abraham Lincoln (). By 1909 much larger Franklin Park had been established southcentral central park near downtown Lansing (). That same year saw completion of Woodward Avenue which runs through downtown from State Street eastward deep into Downtown Lansing (). With this major arterial artery passageway open wider than ever before business flourished throughout downtown Lansing with various office complexes coming up along Woodward providing easy access to Interstate94 (now I-696). From here businesses could expand tax deductible outposts throughout rural Livingston County or even southeast Lapeer County where farmlands still remain today including Hawthorne Township within Shiawassee County just northwest corner Of Mackinac Island
