The Grand Haven Air Force Base gift history begins in 1942 when the United StatesArmy's 326th Bombardment Group was transferred from the Detroit Municipal Airport to Grand Haven. The group became the 326th Bombardment Squadron, which flew strategic bombardment missions over Europe during World War II. In 1946, the squadron was redesignated as the 326th Bombardment Wing and activated at Grand Haven. The wing served as a subordinate command of Eastern Air Command until its unification with Tactical Air Command in 1951. Inactivated in 1957, the wing re-activated at Grand Rapids AFB, Michigan and again served as a subordinate command of Eastern Air Command until its abolition in 1960. In 1965, the 366th Fighter Wing was reactivated at Grand Haven and moved into former squadron headquarters building on Wright Field Boulevard. It concurrently assumed mission and equipment from both wings. The 366th eventually became an all-weather fighter wing operation flying Lockheed F-106 Delta jet aircraft performing bombing, strafing and antiaircraft duties over North Vietnam during Operation Rolling Thunder III while also conducting airlift operations for U.S forces in South Korea during Operation Herculean Task Force III. During its time at Grand Haven, the wing produced more than 1,000 pilots who went on to serve in USAF units during peacetime and wartime assignments including five Carrier Strike Groups (CSG), two Strategic Reconnaissance Forces (SRF), ten Tactical Air Command (TAC) Squadrons, twenty-four Weather Units/Organizations (WU/O), three Military Airlift Commands (MAC) Squadrons and one Naval Surface Warfare Squadron
Grand Haven, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the County seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 112,865 as of 2010, making it the most populous city in Washtenaw County. The City of Grand Haven is one of two cities in Michigan with a combined total population over 1 million who are both considered to be "major metropolitan areas." Grand Haven also has a sizable agricultural sector which includes production of nuts, cereal crops, fruits and vegetables, and pork products. The United States Air Force has a rich history of giving gifts. Gifts have been given to the USAF since World War II and it is probably one of the most gift-giving organizations in the world. The USAF has many different types of gift Giving Programs, but two that are particularly well known are the Department of Defense (DoD) Military appreciation program and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center Astronomy Gift Program. Gift giving within the USAF can be traced back to General Dwight Eisenhower’s order in 1953 which called for all military branches to give “a just return on investment” when awarding awards or decorations. This order was followed by President John F Kennedy’s executive Order 12215 which established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center Astronomy Gift Program in 1969. The NASA Goddard Southeast Astrophysics Laboratory Presidential Award for Excellence in gifted Leadership was first presented to an individual during this program from 1978-1981. The astrophysicist Neil Armstrong became the first human being to walk on the moon during this time period as part of Apollo 11, receiving his award from then Director of NASA James Webb in 1984. After Nixon resigned from office, Gerald Ford took office and decided not to follow through with orders issued by Eisenhower about providing a just return on investment for Awards received by military members within DoD as described earlier. However, gifts were still being given through both programs under Presidents Reagan and George H W Bush before their terms expired. It should be noted that these programs did not always coincide with each other; For example, while DoD bestowed medals onto active duty members who had made significant contributions thereto during their career at either service academies or fighter jets squadron level, some astronauts or physicists may have received similar honors from NASA once they left government service (Hodge). One notable gift that was given by the USAF during this time was Project Olympus—the first artificial intelligence project ever undertaken outside Earth's atmosphere using technology developed at MIT Lincoln Laboratories under Professor Floyd Lattimer Jr.'s guidance—received in 1975 from then Secretary of Defense William Cohen via Senator Barry Goldwater III along with $1 million appropriated by Congress specifically for this purpose(Lattimer). Another notable event happened when Lieutenant Colonel Arnold Hackett became superintendent of Manned Maneuvering Unit Squadron Five at Beale AFB after serving as commanding officer at Offutt AFB until he assumed command following retirement fromactive duty due to illness in 1983.(Hackett). Hackett would go on serve as Superintendent until his death suddenly taking control following Vice Admiral Jerry Jorden's sudden promotion upon inauguration following President George H W Bush's request(Wicklund)(Crowell)).hackett leaves behind a lasting legacy as oneof America's longest Serving Chiefs Of Staff(..).
The Air Force had a gift history dating back to World War II. In 1941, the United States Air Forces (USAAF) was created as part of the U.S. War Department and First Lieutenant General George Custer became its first commander. On December 17, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the National Defense Act of 1941 which authorized the creation of the USAF and set up Headquarters American Expeditionary Force (HQAEF) in Europe to provide air support for Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of France and Belgium on September 8, 1944. The number of RAF squadrons operating in North America increased from two to thirteen by 1945; however total USAF aircraft operations were only about one-third those flown by RAF squadrons at this time. In 1947, Congress passed legislation creating an additional Armed Forces Service Component entitled "the Air Force Reserve" which could be activated within ninety days for Readiness Training and Service without leave or pay under Article XI of the Constitution as amended by Public Law 93-568. This act also established three service branches within theAir Force Reserve: The Air National Guard (ANG), The Air Education And Training Command (AETC), and The Military Airlift Command (MAC). Nine months later on July 1, 1948 Congress extended activation rights to all reserve components except ANG when it reauthorized AFSPA section 911(a)(1). At that time there were over 330 military wings across fifty states with more than 540 organizational units Twelfth Air Force being activated at MacDill AFB Fla., four years earlier than any other wing in USAF History! On April 20th 1951 AFSPA section 911(a)(2) was amended definingactivated Wing levels instead of numbered Squadrons/Squadron commanders; thus eliminating duplicate authority structures for wings/air divisions when deployment orders changed sector or air arm assignment changed status etc.. Activation Order No's remained unchanged thru AO 51-226 onward but unit commanders became Wing Commander level rather than Squadron Commander level becoming operational thereafter with similar responsibilities regardless deployments or changes in airborne capabilities etc... Other changes included establishment on active duty permanent members per Standby List criteria established during mobilization period instead cf temporary equipment usage requirements during wartime like then Use Existing Aircraft For More Than One Mission With Out Delivery Of Equipment During That Periods Vs New Aircraft requisitioned& delivered Only After All Requirements Had Been Demanded & Approved By Commands Affecting Unit activation such as HQAEF European Theater where Fifteenth AF was activated Feb 15th 1949 at Barham AFB England while Ninth AF continued inactive until May 14th 1949 after being reactivated from inactive groups at Wheeler AFB Okla.). Activations now proceeded upon order received from command HQAEF European Theater no matter where located outside Continental USA... ETO activations followed same process BuergerTVP's leading edge concept having been accepted prior to memo change effective Aug 24th 1950..... Assembling Wings following ETO guidelines usually took place between Donelson AFB Tenn., Wright Patterson AFB Ind., Schweinfurt AB Germany Wurzburg Airport Austria Mar 21st 1952 thru EndOf Year.... Most recent available activation date is November 3rd 1992......'
Grand Haven is a city in the State of Michigan, United States. The population was 61,531 at the 2010 census. Grand Haven was founded on the lower Kawkawicka River in 1824 as a small village near what is now Holland Township. It became an incorporated city in 1907. In 1962 it merged with neighboring Holland to form the new town of Grand Haven-Holland. The river that gave name to Grand Haven is also one of its most important waterways: it forms part of both the Lower Kawkawicka and Upper Kawkawicka Rivers watersheds, and has been used for trade by Native American and early European settlers. The first Europeans to settle in what is now Grand Haven were French fur traders and missionaries who arrived during the 17th century. They called the area "Nova Granda" or "New Great Harbor". The first permanent settler was Nicholas de Groot, who arrived from Amsterdam in 1697 with his family and began trading with local natives. He named his settlement after himself, Grand Haven (Grootenhaven). At first there were only a few dozen people living here; however, over time Gruntown grew into one of Michigan's largest towns due to its natural resources—such as lumber and coal—and its position as an eastern terminus for many major transportation routes. During World War I, Grande Battle Area No 1 – located just east of present day downtown – housed up to 10 million troops who fought across the Midwest zone between October 1914 and November 1918 on land that now includes parts of Holland Township, Muskegon Heights Township (near present day Canton), Ottawa County (now MI), Ashtabula County (now OH) and Fairfield County (now CT). More than 12 million gallons of water were pumped from local wells during this wartime effort which helped win WWI for America. AfterWorld War II ended, many residents moved away because they no longer had any use for such large amounts of water storage facility or military activity nearby; however some continued until 1959 when all remains within ZIP codes 48822-48951 were demolished including much older buildings like Hometown Hall which still stands today! In 1957–1958, $27 million was invested by then Mayor John Gardner into renovations/expansion of Hometown Hall which included adding a movie theater/theatre district complete with two levels plus auditoriums on each side., creating more than 15 jobs while also improving public education opportunities around town Additionallynew shopping centers have since been constructed Downtown along Third Street SE corner Lansing Avenue South adjacent to University High School making Downtown GRAND HAVEN ONE stop shopping destination!
