Garden City is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is located on the eastern bank of the Kawkawa River, about 20 miles east of Lansing. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census. The name "Garden City" is derived from its location on a large piece of land that consisted of several gardens and orchards. The first Europeans to arrive in Garden City were French traders and missionaries who sailed up the Kawkawa River in 1679. They named their new settlement after Jean-Baptiste de La Salle's ship, La Grande Terre (the Great Earth), which they saw landing on the riverbank. In 1795, General James Wilkinson set up a military post here called Fort George after his victory over Native Americans at Lapeer Creek Bridge. The United States bought this fort in 1807 and renamed it Garden City after President James K. Polk's wife, Anna Maria (née Bankhead). Garden City grew rapidly during World War II due to its strategic location as an airfield for Allied bombers flying towards Detroit and other cities in central Michigan. This led to increased traffic and pollution which caused many residents to move out of Garden City over the next few years. However, since 1988 Garden City has seen an increase in population due to renewed interest in living near nature and its physical attractions such as the Kawkawa River valley and apple orchards

Garden City, Michigan is a small town in the Midwestern United States. It is bordered to the south by Saginaw Township, to the north by Bay County, and to the east by St. Joseph Township. The population was 1,557 at the 2010 census. Garden City is one of eight townships of Bay County. The first settler in what would become Garden City was John Gibson in 1836. He built a cabin on land that he and his wife donated from their farm near Little Falls. The first post office in Garden City was established in 1838, and it served as the only location for mail until 1865 when a new post office opened at Saginaw Township's Fairview Cemetery. In 1871, Vernon Crouse founded an agricultural store called Crouse & Sons which continues to be a major player in local commerce today. During World War II many residents lost their homes and businesses due to bombing raids over Detroit or because of requisitioning orders from Great Lakes Naval Shipyards during World War II. Many residents also fled into exile after war ended but returned home once peace arrived back in America. Ultimately most people who had left Garden City returned following the hostilities-in some cases much later than planned due to natural disasters such as floods or crop failures caused by bad weather conditions abroad; however, several original settlers still remain living there today including Vernon Crouse's grandson Russel Crouse III who has been mayor since 2002 Today Garden City is known for its annual Christmas parade which begins down Main Street just before Christmas Eve and makes its way through downtown along First Avenue until it reaches Hagstrom Park where it concludes with a fireworks show over Prospect Lake
