The Navy has a long and proud history in Fraser, Michigan. The first naval ship to be built in the state was the USS Constitution, which launched on November 15, 1807. The USS Constitution was the first of a series of Naval ships that helped create Michigan’s maritime heritage. In 1911, the state legislature passed a law authorizing the construction of two more naval ships-the USS Detroit and the USS Mackinac. These vessels were financed by a donation from Henry Ford. The Navy also donated land for use as training grounds for Naval recruits in Fraser during World War I. After World War I, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered the decommissioning of all U.S.-owned Naval vessels in 1937, but they were re-commissioned and used by Lake Superior Command until 1971 when they were redesignated Coast Guard Ships (CG) 771 through 777). Since 1967, all CG 771 through 777 have been stationed at Grand River Naval Shipyard (GRNHS), located on Wabash Bay near Fraserport in downtown Grand Rapids. GRNHS is home to one of America’s largest fleet of navy gifts - over 350 gifts dating back to 1914!

The community was founded in 1868 by John Fraser, a logging entrepreneur. In 1931, Fraser became an overnight success when he developed and marketed the first refrigerator in America. Today, Fraser's commercial and industrial sectors are major employers in the community. The history of Fraser begins with John Fraser. A logging entrepreneur from Scotland who immigrated to Michigan in 1868, John started farming on his family's property near present-day Thomson. He soon discovered that he had something special plant growth: trees that produced fruit that was both sweet and tart. He named his new venture "Fraser's Apple Orchard," after his father-in-law who ran the farm where they grew apples. John operated Fraser's Apple Orchard until 1892 when he sold it to Samuel Slatkin for $10,000 dollars cash. Samuel used his profits to invest in other businesses including lumbering and processing plants which would become some of the most important landholders in the town today. In 1931, Frasers commemorate their centennial year with a variety of events including a parade down Main Street celebrating apple production as well as apple orchards open to visitors throughout fall and winter months during which you can enjoy picking your own apples!

Fraser, Michigan is a small town located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. Fraser is part of the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek-Holland Township district. The community was founded in 1867 and named after General Sir John Fraser of Canada who served as military governor of Michigawa Province during the early 1800s. The community’s original plat included a school, Methodist church and four contributing buildings including a post office and store. In 1881, the town voted to annex what are now Eaton Rapids and Holland Township which added an additional 2,000 residents to Fraser throughout most of the 20th century. By 1950, however, only about 350 people lived in Fraser with most residents living on farms or working in nearby towns. The economy of Fraser has been based primarily on agriculture since its founding and it remains one of the most agricultural settlements in Michigan today. Farms produce corn, wheat and other crops while small businesses provide local services such as grocery stores and mechanic shops. In recent years there has been some development in the form of new homes and businesses but overall farming remains a dominant force in Fraser’s economy.
Fraser was founded in 1827 by Alexander Fraser and his brother John. The town grew quickly, and by 1830 had a population of over 100 people. In 1835, the Fraser brothers decided to sell their town to the Michigan Territory. It wasn't until 1845 that the town was annexed into the city of Detroit.
