Gourmet Coffee in Ferndale, Michigan began as a small coffee shop on the corner of Third and Potter Streets in the early 1990s. The store was started by two friends, Tim and Kathy Mahoney, who were passionate about coffee and each had their own roastery in Pennsylvania. They wanted to provide customers with the best possible quality beans, espresso drinks, and accessories available. In 2006, Gourmet Coffee opened its first location in downtown Detroit. In 2009, they moved into their current location on Washington Boulevard in Ferndale. Ferndale is a city in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 16,514 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Washtenaw County. The city was founded on November 1, 1868 by George Ferndale and his brother-in-law John Ladd as a town in Wayne County. On October 14, 1870, it merged with Washtenaw County to form this present municipality. The first post office in Ferndale was established on February 2, 1871. On December 15 of that year, the first school session was held in the new building which had been erected for that purpose. In 1875, a store and saloon were built on Commercial Street near Third Avenue; this building still stands and is used as the municipal library today. In 1886, Ferndale became an incorporated village under the name of "Ferndale". That same year saw another store and hotel opened in what is now downtown; this structure still stands and is used as a museum today. In 1896 or 1897 also came electric streetlights (the first municipally installed), which helped promote trade and commerce within the community while providing night illumination for businesses located along Fulton Street north of State Street east of Main Avenue. During World War I there were many military installations around town including Camp Forrest which housed some 10 thousand Umpqua Valley National Forest soldiers from various stateside commands during 1918 - 1919 when it operated as an airfield/base campground with hangars for bombers & fighters etc., but no permanent buildings remained after hostilities ended such as ammunition stores & armories closed down due to lack of demand or vandalism – these have since been redeveloped into mixed commercial uses such as apartments etc.; Camp Forrest has since reverted back to its original military function once again however all evidence suggests that much remains unoccupied & unused at present day primarily due to lack of interest from either local authorities or private developers alike who see little future value or use for such an active & popular tourist attraction especially given recent trends towards development adjacent to well known & popular tourist destinations?

After centuries of refinement, coffee has become one of the most celebrated drinks in the world and is now enjoyed by many people throughout multiple cultures.
Coffee first started to be grown and enjoyed as a beverage in temperate climates around the world. The Arabic word for coffee is qahwān, which means ground beans. In the Middle East, it was known as kahwan or sharqi. Coffee began to be traded among traders and travelers in the region during the 8th century AD. Some of the earliest references to coffee can be found in Ibn Battuta's Travels (1324-1350). One account from him reads: "There are certain regions where they brew coffee very well, but I do not know its name." The first European reference to coffee was made by Marco Polo in his book, "Travels" (1265), when he writes: "In India we drink black pepper-based tumbler brewed with milk and spices." In 1296, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias discovered Brazil while sailing through that area and named it after Rojo da China—the red color of Chinese tea. From then on, espresso became associated with this new discovery. By 1493, Italian navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano had charted an route from Spain to Japan via Indonesia; he named this new land Java because of its resemblance to Java, an island off Indonesia's coast.
Ferndale is a city in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1881 by John Ferndale and his wife Nancy. It became a municipality in 1903. The current mayor is Paula White and the city council is made up of six members who are elected at-large and four members who are appointed by the Mayor with approval from the City Council. The first settler in what is now Ferndale was John Ferndale, who arrived on July 4, 1881 from Lansing Township, New York. He married Nancy (née Brown) on October 8, 1881 in Muskegon County Court House. Their only child was born later that year: John Fenton Ferndale II (born November 12th). In 1884 John’s brother-in-law George Armstrong moved to town and joined them as a result of this marriage; they would eventually become good friends and George would help run the local store until his death in 1923. In 1885 there were three other families living near where Ferndale now stands: Theissen family (later renamed Ziegler), Hendricks family (later renamed Post), and Snyder family (later renamed Sneath). All these settlers came to Sweet Home Township because it was then part of Macomb County which included Muskegon Heights Township too! This showed how things changed over time – when one area changes hands it often follows other nearby municipalities which means that some of our early history can be found right here! John Ferndale had two children with Nancy before he died on March 17th 1889 from an illness he contracted while out sick at home; their daughter Nancie also grew up to marry in 1904 but her husband still lives here today so she can claim her father’s legacy! We have many photographs of both daughters including ones taken as young women just prior to their weddings! Daddy did all his shopping for groceries himself back then so you could say goodbye to those days when mom helped out too! From this point forward things started moving more rapidly for our small community – we had our first schoolhouse built soon after John passed away and another one completed within a few years afterwards! Our first post office opened up shop not long after that too!! Finally we had access to electricity so everyone could get around without having to carry loads or use horses… pretty amazing considering it only took about 60 years for us all to actually experience true progress like this!!! We may not have always been able to keep up with world standards but we definitely never wanted things status quo!! 2 More schools were built shortly afterwards including one next door which served as the secondary school until 1974 when Highland High School opened its doors !! That’s right – even though FerndALE has been around since way back folks sometimes forget how great Holland Park Elementary School used to be LOL As if we didn’t have enough going on already….. well let’s get onto some more recent news shall we?
