Fenton is a city in Chippewa County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Chippewa County. Fenton is located on the banks of the Flint River in the central region of Midwestern Michigan. Fenton was founded in 1821 by French-Canadian fur trappers and traders Pierre Elliott Trudeau and his brother Michel de Montreuil. The town was named after General George Washington's home, Mount Vernon. A post office called Fenton was established in 1826, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1831, local farmers began to grow corn on their farms around what is now downtown Fenton. This led to construction of a sawmill on the riverbank in 1836. That same year also saw the opening of a general store and post office at what is now First Baptist Church (now known as Methodist Church). In 1840, a railroad arrived through Fenton and soon made it an important commercial center with stores and businesses located near both riverfront properties along the tracks and within walking distance of each other. It wasn’t until 1862 that automobiles became available for purchase through mail order from Detroit; this allowed residents to travel easily to their jobs outside of town during summer months when roads were not yet good enough for car traffic or during winter when travel inside would be difficult due to ice buildups on streetsides necessary for passage by wagon or horse teamsters carrying goods across Lansing Bayou between Sault Ste Marie and Flint

Fenton is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the border of Washtenaw and Oakland counties. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Fenton is named after George Fenton, a Revolutionary War veteran and first settler in the area. In 1824, George Fenton sold his land to John Stephenson for $1,500 cash. Stephenson's nephew Tobias Green built a log cabin here that served as the nucleus of what would become Fenton. Both Green and Stephenson were farmers and entrepreneurs who developed an early cotton gin in this area which became one of Michigan's leading businesses during its heyday in the mid-19th century. The importance of agriculture led to heavy industry development in Fenton during the early 20th century as well; this included including several companies that manufactured munitions during World War I: American Rifle Works (ARW), Flintlock Manufacturing Company (FLINTLOCK), Union Machine Gun Works (UMGW), and Vickers Ammunition Company (VAC). Additionally, Ford Motor Company established a plant here from 1916 through 1919 to produce Ford cars and trucks; it later became known as Wayne Assembly Plant. In 1936, local resident Jock Mahoney founded Mahoney's Drive-in restaurant located on Main Street which remains open today as one of downtown Fenton's most popular attractions tourist destinations for its unique menu items, family fun atmosphere, live music performances nightly by local bands or occasional events such as car shows or tractor pulls throughout the year. A major civic event held annually in honor of community members who have made significant contributions to their hometown occurred on September 17–20 each year since 1988 when Downtown Development Authority board adopted an ordinance establishing "Fenton Days." This event provides opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate their community interests characterized by creativity, innovation, service rendered or support shown through economic activity or volunteerism within it while honoring individuals who have made significant contributions thereto over time either through money raised or simply making themselves available without charge for help with various tasks or initiatives within their jurisdiction/area deemed necessary by board membership at any time during those 4 days/weekend period preceding Citywide celebration being observed thereby allowing all citizens within easy access thereto regardless thereof age gender sex etc., whether they are residents property taxpayers et cetera., free from outside pressures not otherwise possible given present day preoccupation with more pressing matters affecting our town
Fenton, Michigan was founded in 1836 by John Fenton and his wife Ann. The town was named after Fenton's father, who had settled in the area in 1824. The first store in the town was built on the corner of Main Street and State Road 5. In 1837, a post office was established in Fenton and it remained open until 1963. The first school in Fenton opened in 1840 and it remained operating until 1971. In 1862, a railroad station was built at the present day location of Fort Wayne Junction. At this time, the town consisted of just a few homes and businesses. By 1865, however, there were over 50 residents living in Fenton. In 1876, a gristmill was built on North Straits Avenue to mills corn for local farmers. By 1880, there were 45 residences and businesses within the limits of Fentontownship. In 1924, an ice cream parlor called Cherry Blossom opened along State Road 5 north of town center. It operated until 1957 when it closed down due to financial problems
