Farmington Hills, Michigan has a long and proud coffee history. The city was founded in 1867 by George W. Farmington, a cattle rancher and miller. The first coffee beans were roasted in the family’s home on Washington Street. When the farm went bankrupt in the 1870s, George decided to move his business operations to nearby Lansing and started Roasting & Brewing Company with his son John. From there, it was only a matter of time before Farmington Hills became an important center for coffee production. In 1912, the first commercial roastery was opened in Farmington Hills by Julius Meinwald and Harry Kappelbaum. By 1922, all of Michigans major roasters had joined forces under the name of National Coffee Corporation (NBC). In that year, NBC merged with two other roasters, Hario Co., Ltd., and Peet's Coffee & Tea Company to form what is now Peet’s Coffee & Tea company Inc. During this period of growth, Farmsington Hills saw some of its most significant changes: in 1931 it became an incorporated city; in 1938 it became part of Dearborn Heights; and finally, in 1949 it attained full township status

Farmington Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the east side of the Mackinac Bridge. The population was 19,593 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is within Wayne County. The name "Farmington" originated from a mission founded by Protestant missionaries in 1827 and abandoned in 1829 after accruing debts from their work there. The first permanent settler in Farmington Hills was David Hendrickson, who arrived in 1839 with his family from Denmark. Hendrickson named his farm "Hendrickson's Prairie." By 1840, he had two families living there: John Aspinall and Martha Aspinall Heflin. In 1847, David Hickson sold land to George Fenton for $10 per acre (equal to $100 today). The town of Farmington was platted on May 14, 1850 by members of the Michigan General Assembly under theleadership of Judge Augustus de la Grange In 1861-1862, when General Ambrose Burnside surveyed what became Detroit proper, he noted that there were no settlements within 10 miles (16 km) of him except one small village called Farmington Hills on the north side of River Rouge which he designated as a military post for rebels against American rule. A few years later James Kossuth led an uprising against American occupation authorities here and many farmers fled to Canada or West Virginia before returning home during World War I; but most continued to live here into World War II because they could not support themselves outside Detroit without giving up their land or selling it off piecemeal through questionable deals with local speculators During much OFWAD activity along river Rouge east of Dearborn Heights between 1916-1920 some farms were confiscated by US forces who used force and intimidation to get owners to sell out or go into exile Aftermath: Many refugees found new homes west side where Wacoal Steel Plant now stands
Farmington Hills was founded in 1824 by John C. Farmington and his wife, Sarah. The first post office in Farmington Hills was established in 1827. The town was named for Farmington, New York, the birthplace of John C. Farmington. In 1847, the first school building was built in the town. The Town of Farmington Hills organized on November 3, 1851 and became a city on October 26, 1963. On April 15, 1984, the last date on which the City of Farmington Hills could have declared itself a city-county merger, it did so instead becoming a suburb of Detroit.
