Farmington Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The name "Farmington" comes from an English settlement that was founded by James Ford on land that now makes up much of downtown Farmington Hills. In 1824, General Simon Partridge established Fort Dearborn here to protect Detroit from Indian attacks. The first post office for Farmington Hills was called Dearborn Heights and opened on October 1, 1827. On November 16, 1837, it became known as Farmington Township when it was organized as part of Wayne County. The township's first mayor was John Cushing; its first treasurer was James Kappenheimer; and its first justice of the peace was Amos Jenssen. By 1840, most of what would become Farmington Hills had been developed as a suburb of Detroit with just a few scattered villages remaining rural until after World War II when they began to be annexed into Detroit again as part of their growth pattern (the last village annexation took place in 1957). During the early 20th century many farmers located their operations near what today is the eastern edge of Downtown Detroit because they could irrigate their crops using then new water technology brought over by wagon trains during the Mexican–American War (1846). This area still retains some evidence of this older culture including old farmsteads and ranches which can be seen along Woodward Avenue between Gratiot Avenue and Park Row Drive NW throughout most of downtown Detroit today (although there are few if any remains left from this period other than a small number of historic buildings inside Midtown Center District). In 1914-15 an act were passed through Congress making farming easier for people who did not have access to markets or transportation so those farmers started moving out east where better soils were available and nearer urban areas such as Cleveland or Buffalo – all while leaving behind large numbersof rural homes in central/western Michigan across several hundred miles wide! Today around one-third (or more)of all residential real estate listings being published online are for properties within 5 miles (8 km) or less radius of any major metropolitan area outside MetroDetroit! What we once thought were isolated villages have now become integral parts not onlyof our cities but also global metropolises like Toronto or London… even Dallas! Downtown’s popularity has led to an increase in development pressures on adjacent neighborhoods too – retail corridors have sprung up along Woodward Avenue between State Street and Grand River Boulevard while State Street itself has seen heavy redevelopment into luxury apartments since 2000 surrounding One Republic Plaza – home to both Cadillac Place Stadium—the largest sports arena in America—and Hyatt Regency Lansing Hotel & Tower which overlooks Ionia University campus
