Farmington Hills, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 97,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The name "Farmington" originated from a phrase meaning place where cows were milked. Farmington Hills was first settled in 1837 by farmers who arrived from Illinois and Indiana. In 1881, it became an incorporated town with a population of about 1,500 people. It merged with other towns in Wayne County in 1907 to form Farmington Township which had a population of 10,000 people when it joined the city proper. The city was formed from parts of two other towns in Wayne County: Dearborn Heights and Orion Township (now Dearborn Heights). The growth of Farmingtonville began with its annexation by Detroit in 1925; it had a population of about 30,000 before joining the city proper that year. With rising prices for land near downtown and suburban development expanding into what was then farm land, Farmington Hills experienced rapid growth beginning in the late 1950s through the 1970s as its center moved away from downtown to become one of Greater Detroit’s most vibrant neighborhoods (Fench & Bigham 1975). As early as 1956 some residents petitioned to have their village named after them – they received permission but never followed through (Larson 1957). During this time period there also emerged another group within Farmington Hills active in seeking social change – teachers and professionals who wanted more opportunities for their students than those available through traditional public schools system operating within cities limits (Bigham 1978). This effort eventually led to establishment of District 3 Public Schools serving all areas including suburbs outside of downtown Detroit until 1998 when they were merged into District 2 School Services Association under new leadership which moved back inside City Limits (Beardsley 2003b)

Farmington Hills is a city located in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the west bank of the river Rouge. The population was 54,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn metropolitan area and is bordered by Farmington Township to the south, Warren Township to the west, and Clinton Township to the north. Farmington Hills was first settled in 1824 as a small farming village on land that now forms part of Detroit. In 1885, when Farmington Hills became a city, it passed through an amalgamation with neighboring villages of Northfield and Southfield to form what is now Wayne County. That same year, Farmington Hills became one of only two cities in Michigan (the other being Lansing) to be granted a charter as a municipality by then-Governor John Albion Macklinore. From its inception until 1945, Farmington Hills was governed by an appointed Board of Alderman who were responsible for all local government functions including police and fire protection; however, this authority gradually lost power as farm production increased and city services grew more complex. By 1945, all but one member had resigned from the board amid allegations that they were not living up to their responsibilities or were taking bribes from developers working within Mayor James "Jim" Byrnes' administration. In 1955, after years of efforts by City Councilman Jack Welch and then-Mayor Joseph Pappas (who also served as head of Wayne County), Farmington Hills became one of three cities in Michigan (along with Ann Arbor and Dearborn Heights) designated as Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum sites pursuant to Act 197 Of 1956 which created The National Library System within United States Congress effective July 1st following your Excellency's inauguration date less than six months earlier!
