The United States Air Force deployed a gift to Farmington Hills, Michigan in 1948. It was the first time that the military had stationed an air force in the city. The gift was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber. The bomber was brought to town and set up at a field near Central Avenue and I-696. It served as a training ground for local fighter pilots. In 1951, the bomber was moved to Vandenberg AFB, California and became operational as part of Operation Neptune Spear. It played a major role in attacking North Korea during the Korean War. After the war, it returned to Michigan and served as a test platform for new weapons systems until it retired in 1991. Today, it is still used by the Air Force as an exhibition plane.

We also hope that through this process we can provide some insight into how service members use their donated items, as well as how they feel about being part of the Armed Forces.
Farmington Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 68,821 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth-largest city in Michigan and the second-most populous city on the Great Lakes region. It is also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. The name "Farmington" comes from nearby Farmington Hills Township which was first established in 1824 as part of Washington County. The township was named after James Ford, who served as an officer in the War of 1812 and as a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court. Ford's brother Jonathan founded a general store and post office called Farmington Hills on West Bloomfield Avenue in 1827. The original farm buildings burned down in 1837 but were rebuilt and enlarged by their successors under different names: Alfred Mears (1851-1930), Julius Rosenwald (1885-1966), Howard Hughes (1948-) and Lee Iacocca (1958-.). In 1909, when Farmington became a municipal corporation, it adopted its present name; it had been rejected by its previous owners for being too similar to other nearby towns such as Dearborn Heights or Detroit. In terms of overall population size, Detroit has always outstripped Farmington; however, there has been an increase over recent years due to immigration from Mexico City and other parts of Latin America as well as growth within suburban areas outside of FarmINGTONHills limits that have annexed much acreage formerly used for agriculture while maintaining some rural character intact - especially around Dearborn Heights which until recently held more than double FarmINGTONHills' population combined even though only a minority live there today due to sprawl issues related to high land values within easy reach of both cities together with suburban enclaves like Royal Oak and Livonia that have sprung up around them since they became large metropolitan areas - all contributing factors behind what has become known as "The Detroit Syndrome".

Farmington Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 137,865 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Oakland County after Detroit. The name "Farmington" is from a Ojibwe word meaning "a place where the water flows freely." The first European settler in what is now Farmington Hills was George Armstrong Custer who arrived in 1837. His brother, John Custer, also settled there about 1840. In 1847, General William Tecumseh Sherman's army passed through Farmington on its way to battle at Gettysburg. After the battle, many Union soldiers and their families stayed in Farmington for several months while they explored nearby towns and villages before returning home to build new homes or return to battlefields later that year. In 1875, Arthur Eldredge began operating an oil refinery on Mackinac Island off of Detroit's shoreline. By 1886 Eldredge had built a large gasoline station on Westland Avenue near which he named his property Eldredge Heights after his father-in-law, Henry Eldredge (1820-1893). In 1907 he donated land along Woodward Ave., between Oakwood Drive and Lafayette Blvd., for a park called Dearborn Park which still includes today's eastern edge of downtown Farmington Hills. That same year Cadillac Automobiles started production at their plant on Eastland Avenue just east of Woodward Ave., becoming one of America's largest automakers until Ford took over that role around 1975. Production ended in 1966 when Cadillac moved its manufacturing operations to Toledo, Ohio; however Cadillac remains headquartered adjacent to IMAX Theatre Wayne State University campus within walking distance of all its buildings across various streets including Livingston Avenue between Center Street and Eastern Boulevard) The first post office serving Farmington Hills was established on October 14th, 1888 by Hemanus Grosse with Addison Nixon as clerk/postmaster/correspondent/ actuary; it closed December 10th 1929 due to lack of mail volume from residents living outside town limits! On July 4th 1898 James Koster opened up his farm stand near present day White Tail Inn & Casino off US 120 south of I-696 just past eastbound exit 54 onto I-696 & White Tail Rd.; this stand became known as 'Koster's Corner'. It continued operation until 1978 during which time Koster sold everything but eggs & milk (now considered Dutch Bros.' supermarket fare) inside!
Farmington Hills was founded in 1837 by George and Martha Farmington. It became a township in 1847. The town of Farmington Hills was incorporated as an independent city on December 15, 1959.
