The Escanaba Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by George and Florence H. Kessler on the corner of State and Main Streets in the town of Escanaba. The company's first cup of coffee was roasted in a small garage on the property that still stands today. In 1914, the company moved to its present location on Court Street in Escanaba, opened a storeroom and hired a blacksmith to create their own brewing equipment. In 1925, theEscanaba Coffee Company became one of the first companies in Michigan to sell ground coffee beans direct to consumers. In 1959, the Escanaba Coffee Company merged with another local business, The Donut Shop Inc., creating one of Michigan's largest food retailers. In 1984, when Donut Shop closed its doors for good, theEscanaba Coffee Company continued operations as an independent business until it closed its doors again in 2006.
Escanaba, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. The first European settlement in what is now Escanaba was by French fur traders in 1795; they named it "Iberia". The first permanent American settlers were the Traverse City Company's colonists in 1817, who called themselves the "Michigan Company". In 1824, when Detroit was founded as the capital of Michigan Territory, Escanaba became part of that territory and remained so until its secession from Michigan in 1910. It then reverted to Washtenaw County status as a municipal corporation within Wayne County until 1959. In early 1890s, Augustus Saginaw started to build an iron Works on his land southwest of town on Buffalo Road and then began to sell share certificates for stock in it to people throughout the area. By 1902 he had become one of America's largest ironmasters with interests stretching from Buffalo Creek up into Superior Township across Cass Corridor into Ontario County and beyond. Eventually he leased out all or most of his properties including Escanaba for development into what is now downtown Escanaba but failed to secure enough investors for his ambitious project before giving up and moving back home two years later having lost most if not all of his money along with many jobs during what turned out to be a difficult period for American industrialists during the Panic Years (1890-1892). However this did not prevent Augustus Saginaw from continuing with some modest building projects such as a new gristmill built on Buffalo Road between 1909 and 1913 which remains standing today despite being extensively damaged by fire over several years; also notable are two small churches/Methodist chapels built near Saginaw's Iron Works between 1907-1910: one on Third Street east side just north of current day University Avenue (now North Park Avenue) while another smaller chapel located near Main Street east side opposite old US Treasury Building (now Woodward Ave.) may have been built earlier still but has no evidence found documenting it however both these buildings remain Standing today! It should be noted that even though many key figures associated with early American steelmaking left hometowns like Scranton, PA after bitter factory disputes resulting from mass production techniques favored abroad (the Panic Years), others such as Augustus Saginaw & Co continue operations right through difficult times - until finally going bankrupt around 1921 due largely to competition faced by newly organized mass produced products coming down substitute routes via importation rather than traditional manufacturing processes - similar struggles would soon surface again at LackAWorks fame days later! A few weeks ago I attended an event commemorating 50 years since history made local citizens their community’s only voice – this past September 2nd we Celebrated Our Community’s most Significant Moment: The Establishment Of A Municipal Corporation InEscancaban By Ordinance Of The Mayor And Council… This Event Was Held At Ford Motor Company Factory On Western Parkway Which Became Home To Many Local Citizens Who Helped Make ESCANABA What It Is Today! There Were Many Well Wishers Attended Including Some From Out Of State!!! As We Look Back Now 50 Years Ago Some Successful Neighborhood improvements happened thanks To Hard Work And Dedication By Local Citizens With One Voice!!!

Escanaba is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the county seat of Escanaba County. The population was 11,967 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is located on the mouth of the Lapeer River, about 25 miles (40 km) south-southwest of downtown Detroit. The primary industry in Escanaba is agriculture, with cattle and dairy farming being some of its more important businesses. The first European to visit what is now Escanaba was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 on his voyage from Spain to North America, when he named it "Espanola". Englishman John Conte discovered what is now Escanaba County in 1794 while exploring for land grants east of Mackinac Island. In 1803, General David Thornburgh decided to make this part of his new Territory of Upper Michigan as a result of settlers moving into that area since 1802; Thornburgh named it "Escanaba Township" in honor of General James Wilkinson who had helped lead the war against Mexico during its Mexican War (1846-48). As early as 1810 farmers planted corn, beans and other vegetables hereabouts; there were also tanneries until 1830 when railroads came along and made tanning one's own leather an industry done largely by slaves then free labor thereafter: horse-drawn carriages ran between Detroit and Toledo carrying passengers over large open pits near present day Whitehall Township where oxen could be unloaded onto trains running northward through Farmington Hills before continuing on to Grand Rapids for delivery to points west before arriving at their destination at night - making this eastern central Michigan town one sleepy center all day long! In 1840 an act passed by Congress authorized construction of a canal across Lake Huron from Traverse City to Superior so that goods passing through that waterway could get cheaper prices in Great Britain than comingland via sail or wagon drive; but not much happened until1845 when US Army Colonel George Armstrong became interested in having access to this canal system so he started building roads connecting Ft Wayne with Ann Arbor via what are now called Veterans Memorial Drive downtown – today’s South Main Street – Armstrong began calling this “The George Washington Canal” although it wasn't completed until 1862 due mainly to lack funding ($5 million actually!). In 1847 local resident Augustus Kelley built a millstream known today as Kelley's Millrace which begins just south off I-75 near milepost 56½ northbound Exit 218A between Lansing/Lapeer Counties highway 8 & US State Highway 2 & continues straight downstream past current location OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP . This stream has been used for powering turbines ever since! This little community soon grew around Kelley's Millrace with people living both upstream & downstream from it including several stores, churches & schools as well as a few homesites clustered around millsite – even though there were no phones or piped water back then! However after years without much action because most everyone pretty much just stayed where they were&lived their livesboaty life various small businesses cropped up along creek banks such as gristmills (crude sawmills), blacksmiths(for turning raw lumber into finished items), harness shops(making saddles & bridles etc.), fertilizer plants (& later pesticide production), post office (& later phone service!), doctorates(etc.) even a couple restaurants before things really started picking up around 1870 when____________________________organized_____ public school district was formed outgrowing rural areas nearby

Polk in 1865, Michigan's 3rd U.S. President, the state legislature designated Lansing as his final resting place and it remains so to this day.
