The Escanaba Air Force Base is home to the Michigan Air National Guard's 169th Fighter Wing. The wing provides air defense for Macomb County, as well as providing aerial refueling and weather support for military missions in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The wing is also responsible for manning two KC-135 Stratotankers stationed at the base. The 169th Fighter Wing was activated on 1 October 1945 at Roswell Army Airfield, New Mexico and assigned to Eighth Air Force. It flew F-94s until 1949 when it received its first jet aircraft, the Republic F-86D Sabre! In 1957, it was redesignated the 169th Tactical Fighter Wing and moved to Escanaba AFB, Michigan; this change came about because with only a few fighter squadrons left in DuPage County after World War II ended,Escanaba would become an important hub of aviation activity in southeastern Michigan. Inactivated on 15 September 1966 while performing transition duty from McDonnell Douglas T-6 Texano aircraft to Fairchild C-123A Starlite Airliners. Activated again on 16 December 1969 when all overseas squadrons were reassigned back to United States soil following Operation Neptune's Spear which grounded USAF jets over Cambodia during their surprise invasion of that countryOperation Boomerang had targeted not just North Vietnam but all other communist nations who were believed to be supporting them thereby ending any potential ambiguity surrounding US foreign policy During this time all wings were reorganized into three groups: The Triangles (169ThTCW/Fighter Group1), Square (169ThTCW/Fighter Group2) and Diamond (169THTF/Air Combat Squadron). These organizational changes followed a directive from then LtCol John Ladd which said "No unit should have more than one squadron operating simultaneously from any single installation." This directive led to increased diversity within USAF by allowing different units more independence while still under total control of Headquarters Strategic Services Agency (HSA). operational assignments through HSA include Brewster B-29 Superfortress reconnaissance flights over Europe flown by 455th Bombardment Squadron using EC-121 Constellation aircraft operated out of RAF Mildenhall Englandand use by 338th Missile Squadron flying SAC RB-47E Stratojet bombers equipped with AGM 68 Scud missiles against targets near Hanoi during what is now known as Operation Rolling Thunder . Additionally 457th BS flew United States Navy carrier based antisubmarine warfare missions off South Korea during these years including providing suppression fires along coastlines near Songdo area between 25 August 1970 - 9 November 1970.. The Air Force is a military branch of the United States federal government that is responsible for air defense and space operations. The Air Force has over 136,000 active duty members and 1 million reservists. The Air Force has three primary wings: the Strategic Command Wing (SAC), which oversees all USAF nuclear weapons activities; the Tactical Aerospace Division (TAD), which manages Fighter Squadron 350 at Incirlik air base in Turkey; and the Global Strike Wing (GSW), which oversees all USAF tactical fighter aircraft worldwide. The Air Force's history dates back to World War I when America entered into a neutrality treaty with Germany that prohibited both sides from joining in any war. This policy lasted until 1933, when Franklin D. Roosevelt became president and began implementing his New Deal program, which included increasing militarization of American society. In 1940, America invaded Europe because of World War II, which started out as a civil war between Nazi Germany and Italy. After Mussolini was overthrown in 1943 and Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, America declared war on Japan. By 1945, it was estimated that over 30% of the world's population had been killed in World War II – an amount greater than any other conflict in human history. By September 1945, Japan had capitulated and Adolf Hitler was installed as Chancellor of Germany due to his victory in the Holocaust – an event known as the end of WWII or1945 Axis triumphs). As a result of these events, many Americans believed that their country should have pulled out of Europe altogether instead of fighting so far away from home while millions were dying overseas. Aftermath: In 1946 Congress passed legislation called "the GI Bill,"which allowed servicemen who had served during World War II to receive college degrees without having to serve again in uniform. The program was also designed to make sure veterans would not become Social Security numbers for future generations by allowing them to collect benefits for life rather than only for 10 years after service ended . This act also helped create what is now known as "Veterans Affairs." The Air Force followed suit with its own graduate school system called "Air University" later renamed "Air Forces College." In 1952 militant groups such as Mao Zedong's Chinese National Revolutionary Army (CNA) began conducting bombings against targets within American airspace near Taiwan resulting in multiple fatalities including one pilot downed during takeoff from Andersen AFB on Guam heels before reaching Taiwanese airspace.– [5] As part-time students enrolled at AFC often found themselves working odd hours outside traditional academic hours while still being required to meet course requirements through lectures/discussions with faculty/students groups rather then reading texts assigned via computer screens directly from publishers websites etc.– OneTCP squadron officer flying CF-18 Hornet mission reports said this type student workload creates unique challenge & demands unique skillsets leading some students feel they are not getting education they need but instead are addicted to technology

It became a county seat in 1850 and became an incorporated municipality in 1916. The city was named after Escanaba, Russia, which was then part of the Soviet Union. Escanaba is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the east side of the Upper Peninsula. The population was 8,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Md., MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Escanaba was French-Canadian trader Étienne Brûlé in 1796, and he named it "Niax." The area that now makes up Escanaba was first settled by Potawatomi Indians in 1824. A post office called "Escanaba" was established in 1829, and remained in operation until 1875. In 1834, the United States government organized two townships – Grand Rapids Township (now Lansing) on the east side of Mackinac Island and Escanaba Township on the west side – as part of a larger land grant to Jean Baptiste Marquette. In 1840, an act were passed which created a village within each township; this became known as "Escanaba." The first school in Escanaba opened in October 1840; it served children between age 6 and 12 years old untilgrades 1 through 8th grade. The school closed due to financial difficulties in 1861 and reopened as an academy nine years later under new management with help from philanthropist Nicholas Henshaw Sr.. After his death, Henshaw's wife began donating property for public education throughout her lifetime; this included building what is now DeVos Place Elementary School into a landmark elementary school system campus that continues today. This period also marked significant progress for both townspeople and immigrants who had begun arriving here since early 1800s: many skilled laborers arrived during this time to work on various projects such as construction of new homes or factories across town while also establishing their own businesses(*). Many people continue living here through semi-professional occupations such as business owners or professionals who commute daily into downtown for work(*). Father Fenton became pastor of St Ignatius Catholic Church located just north of town center after founding it there with donations from friends—a move which coincided with growing demand for parish services from local residents (*). All these accomplishments led to increased tourism industry growth over recent decades which has helped contribute significantly to funding city hall‡§ *. From humble beginnings ESCANABA has become one of North America's most vibrant cities*.
