Eastpointe is a city in the Oakland County, Michigan metropolitan area and part of the Detroit–Windsor, MI Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, Eastpointe had a population of 97,824. The city was founded in 1871 by Augustus Woodward and James Peebles as a small village on the site of what is now Grand River Township. It became an incorporated town in 1903. In 1967, it merged with neighboring Royal Oak to form the larger municipality of Eastpointe. Eastpointe is known for its automotive industry and its large number of auto plants which have produced over 100 million vehicles since they were built there in the 1920s. The city's economy has also been based on other sectors such as information technology and services. Some notable companies that have headquartered in or client relationships with EastPointe include Intel, Microsoft, Ford Motor Company, and Chrysler Group LLC.

Eastpointe is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The name "Eastpointe" was given to the community by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1887 as an honor for his predecessor as mayor of Detroit, John Fenton Eastman. The first house on the site of present day Eastpointe was built around 1800 by General Nicholas Sayles and his family. The Sayleses were prominent landowners in northeast Wayne County and their home still stands today on adjacent Farmington Road east of downtown. General Nicholas's son, Cornelius Sayles, served as Mayor of Detroit from 1827 to 1830 and again from 1835 to 1840; he also founded what became Seminary Hill Cemetery west of downtown. In 1847, Captain George Fitzhugh bought 640 acres (2 km²) south of present day Eastpointe for $2000 from Joshua Dixon. In 1850, Captain Fitzhugh donated another 160 acres (0.6 km²) to the town for use as a cemetery and School District No 9 was created with these land donations. During this time period there were only 7 families living in Eastpointe Township which included: the Sayleses, Dixon brothers/ sisters, Grosse Pointes (later Holland), Dunlap(later Mayfair), Ladd(later Alfred), Hewitt( later Macklinney), Richards(later Baird). This small township had no schools or any other infrastructure other than a few houses which could be rented out during summertime or used as homes by residents when needed. Captain Fitzhugh died in 1863 without leaving any children so his estate went into receivership until it was sold to Wm Haggerty Sr., one of Dearborn's largest merchants and owner of a large farm near Dearborn Heights followed by Wm Haggerty Jr.. On November 3rd 1860 Haggerty married Sarah Ann Clements who resided at 4124 Elam Ave which would later become known as "Hagner Place". After her death about 1880 Hagner Place passed through several changes due to three marriages: firstly Mrs Hornblow married Jno Mathews then after her death Mrs Cookhouse married Simeon Griggs and finally Mrs Simonsson married Rev Dr Livermore who officiated at her funeral together with Rev Dr Mott who conducted her autopsy that same year according to local historians John Prentice & Maurice Boydston Haggerty Place eventually became known as "Eastpointe" after Augustus Saint-Gaudens' original plan for the community called it “Eagle” meaning heights because its location commanded a panoramic view across downtown Detroit giving rise to its nickname “The Heights” . In 1907 there were 970 people living inDetroit with 424 businesses while 515 people lived in east side neighborhoods like Ebenezer Park & 48th St NW where employment opportunities were limited thanks largely to prohibition laws enacted during President Theodore Roosevelt's administration although many ethnic Italians managed successful breweries such as Canfield Brewing Company & Superior Brewery With rising prices along with advancements made within industry throughout America during World War I new housing developments began popping up all over America including east Side neighborhoods such as Edison Park & Washtenaw Hills becoming desirable places for working class Americans seeking breadwinners during wartime but also bringing social stability and increased commercial activity leading directly to skyscrapers being erected along Woodward Avenue starting around 1925 primarily around River Rouge Boulevard creating an 'urban sprawl'. However much like most American cities growth stalled post-war making way for more residential development especially outside DowntownDetroit resulting in high crime rates particularly gang violence which has resulted in multiple homicides taking place within blocks radius centered around Monroe Street between Woodward Avenue & Grand River Drive
