Eastpointe is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing metropolitan area. The Town of Eastpointe was organized on November 1, 1871 by Order of the day resolutions passed in the town meeting that December. The first settler to arrive in what is now Eastpointe was Isaac Armstrong who set up a cabin on the south side of Saginaw River as early as 1872. On May 10, 1875, James Withers and his family moved from Clinton Township to east side of Saginaw River they erected a log cabin which still stands today known as "Withers Cabin." That same year Andrew Hogsett arrived from Canada and bought land on what is now north side of Saginaw River near present-day Midland Park. He built a log cabin there which still stands today known as "Hogsett's Cabin". On October 3, 1876 John Stephenson arrived with his family from New York and set up shop at what is now east side of Saginaw River near Midland Park. In those early days it was all forested land and no one had any idea where he came from or how he got there so when he started trading goods with the Indians we didn’t know what to make of it! Today we can enjoy a portion of this history thanks to George Washington Carver who once said “I am not ashamed to be an Indian because I know that throughTrade I have acquired something that belongs only to me – my country – Yes! my Country!” In 1881 James Withers married Anna Cook who also lived in Clinton Township then moved across river into east side property next door where she grew old and died in 1898 leaving four children: Lillie (born 1882), Addie (born 1886), Everett (born 1888)and Ernest (born 1890). In 1916 Lillie married John Stevenson Jr., father of Alice Livingston Stevenson who later became an author and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist

As demand for fresh roasted coffee grew throughout North America and Europe, so too did the prices paid for these valuable commodities. Eastpointe is a city in Midwestern Michigan, United States. The population was 30,752 at the 2010 census, making it the eighth-largest city in the state. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is located on the east side of the State of Michigan near Downtown Detroit. The first European to visit what is now Eastpointe was French explorer John Huron in 1795. He named it after an eastern settlement he had seen on his way west from Canada. In 1801, US President James K. Polk awarded East Pointe to General Lucius Nixons as part of a land grant for settlers around what is now downtown Detroit. In 1834, one of Nixons' children, Isaac Eaton, started construction on what would become known as Eaton's Tower (now called Ford Field). Eaton became one of America's most successful entrepreneurs and built some of Michigan's most famous businesses including Eastern Air Lines and Chrysler Corporation. His son Edward also became very successful in business and politics; he served as Mayor (1928–32) and Secretary of State (1940–44). In 1951, he received the Presidential Citation for "his great contributions to American industry." During World War II, Eastpointe played an important role in providing war production for both Nazi Germany and Japan. The city also experienced rapid growth due to its proximity to manufacturing plants run by Ford Motor Company and other big corporations like GMC Motors and Alcoa Aluminum companies. The twin towers that dominate East Pointe today were built during this time as well as many other buildings which are still used by local businesses today such as restaurants or stores. After World War II ended, Eastpointe slowly regained its former stature but has continued to experience significant economic decline since then mainly due to suburban development within its boundaries which have taken away jobs from its residents PLoScience paper
