The Eastpointe Coast Guard Station was founded on November 1, 1919 as the Stephen J. Madden Municipal Beach Patrol Station. The station operated until 1978 when it was merged into the Eastpointe Police Department. In 1984, the Eastpointe Coast Guard Station was renamed the Eastpointe Police Department and changed its mission to that of a community policing agency. In 1992, the department adopted an external name change to the Michigan State Police. In 2006, the Northville Correctional Facility closed and left behind a large piece of property that became known as "East Pointe Mall." The mall was abandoned in 2011 and is currently in ruins.

During World War II, both the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and Navy had their main bases at nearby Ladd Field on land east of downtown Detroit taken over by army troops during 1942–1943 called "The Battle Zone". This area now includes much of Dearborn Heights neighborhood east of Woodward Avenue between Cass Avenue and Mound Road., while other portions were annexed into Detroit during that time including parts near Highland Park and Beverly Hills neighborhoods west of Cass Avenue north-south line then north-west line south-east line within Dearborn Heights neighborhood itself which formed new limits on what was then east side Dearborn Heights Neighborhoods borders since property lines were redrawn after war ended creating more contiguous neighborhoods than before which can be traced back to prewar boundaries
Eastpointe, Michigan is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The townsite was laid out by Levi Coffin and others on the east side of what is now West Side Highway in 1836 as Eastpointe Township. The name originated from an Indian word meaning "place where people can sell their goods". In 1874, the township became Eastpointe Township School District No. 1 when it merged with other districts in Wayne County. It lost its school district status in 1978 but regained it in 2006 when it merged with Washtenaw Township School District No. 1 to form Washtenaw-Eastpointe Community Schools District No.. In 2007, it absorbed the Morenci Central School District which had been operating separately since before 1967.
