Clawson is a small town in the western part of Michigan, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. Clawson is located just south of Saginaw on the east side of the St. Clair River and it is bordered by Muskegon to the north and east, Lansing to the south, and Grand Rapids to the west. The community was founded in 1875 by Elisha P. Clawson as a farming settlement near what is now Saginaw Township. It became a post office in 1876, and then an agricultural center with two stores and several homes until 1916 when it had its first school. In that year, Clawson also opened its first bank which continued in operation until 1978. The community has only one restaurant since 1984 but there are plans for several more over time including a shopping mall with about 200AND retail space for other businesses as well as houses for sale on separate lots from each other giving residents plenty of privacy There are three churches in town - First Baptist Church (founded 1886), Methodist Episcopal Church (1893), and Latter-day Saints (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) church (1902). The first written mention of coffee is found in a letter from an Ethiopian traveler to his friend, Sultan Mahmud of Zanzibar, in 1493. Coffee beans were being traded between the region and Arabia for some time before that. The process of roasting coffee was first developed by the Arabs in the 7th century. The first Columbian Exchange occurred when Spanish explorers discovered America in 1492 and brought back plants and seeds with them. The Dutch started importing coffee from Africa around 1600. By 1650, about twenty percent of all Dutch trade was with India, Persia, and Africa – three quarters of which involved coffee. In 1795, espresso machines were introduced into Italy after French traders sent a shipment of beans to Europe without any quality control or testing. In 1812–1813, Dunkirk was captured by France during the War of 1812 and its supply lines to England were severed; this led to a surge in demand for French-made English espresso machines throughout Europe resulting in high prices for European coffees compared to their native Ethiopia's low price points. After Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo on June 6th 1815, coffee became available once again through new trading routes opening up due to British restrictions on commerce with France following the Napoleonic Wars (1814–1815). This allowed Bourbon King Louis XVIII to resume unrestricted trade with Austria without having his monopoly broken by France adding new exports such as tea and sugarcane while also reopening old channels such as Portugal where coffee had previously been grown illegally (Nicolson 2010). In 1817 Francis I included roasted Coffee beans into the Index Librorum Prohibitorum which controlled all commercial banking activities within Vatican City (Ferguson 1998). World War II interrupted these trends however as prohibitionism took hold across much of Western Europe amid perceived enemies like Germany who exported more than they imported (Petersen 2003). However with increased availability came increased prices throughout most parts of the world reaching parity with natural resources only happening sporadically during this time period due largely to political instability caused by economic depression (Lambert 1990; Fournier 2007). As container shipping became more prevalent along transportation routes during this era Bulk shipments began arriving at ports much closer to consumers making it easier for people living close enoughto buy directly rather than going through brokers or middlemen thereby reducing chancesof wasting good beans (Goudreau 2007; Healy 2009a) . Clawson, Michigan is a small town located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Lansing–Warren County micropolitan statistical area. Clawson was founded by John Fitch in 1836 as an agricultural village on what is now Clawson Road. It became a township in 1868 and then a city in 1932. The first settler in what is now Clawson was John Fitch, who arrived there with his family from Kentucky in 1836. He built a log cabin near present-day Clawson Road and named it "Fitch's Grove." The village grew quickly because of its fertile land and access to water resources. By 1870, there were 108 residents living in Fitch's Grove, all farmers or their families. In 1868, Clawson Township was organized and soon had a population of over 100 people. Many settlers came from Ohio because that state had become embroiled in the American Civil War (1861-1865). Some residents also moved to Clawson because of its strategic location at the junction of two important geographic routes: US 12 and M-16 (now I-94). In addition, new businesses were established around the turnofthecentury: grist mills for flour and feeder rails for horses; sawmills; ichor tanks; vernacular stores such as "John Doe's Store" (later known as Joe's grocery); blacksmiths; carpenters; wagonmakers;and teachers serving grades one through twelve at what would later be called Detroit High School District No 5 (now Dearborn Heights HS). All these businesses thrived until World War II when they went out of business due to tough competition from wartime production needs within America’s manufacturing sector fostered by rising prices for raw materials imported from abroad.*1* Clawson experienced rapid growth after becoming a city during 1932 under Mayor Cushman Dennett*.2* The first public works projects funded by City Council included widening Main Street between Seventh Avenue westward to four lanes wide and constructing sidewalks, streetlights, drains, stormwater controls and gutters on many blocks throughout the city limits*3* As clawedons began lifestyles outside their homes*,4* more commercial buildings appeared along Third Avenue eastward from Main Street including Sears department store opened on December 15th 1903 which remains one of Lansing’s most popular tourist destinations today5*. This period also saw construction of municipal buildings such as City Hall*, jail cells*, fire hall*6* among others7*. One noteworthy development during this time frame occurred when local Women’s Auxiliary Service Incorporated formed to provide daycare services for mothers working outside the home8*.
