Burton, Michigan is one of the oldest towns in the United States. It was founded by General George Washington and his soldiers during the French and Indian War in 1763. The town was named for Burton on the Susquehanna River. In 1834, Burton became a city. The first coffee shop opened in Burton in 1894. In 1955, Burton merged with neighboring Grand Rapids to form a new city government which has continued to grow since then. In 2000, Burton became an urban center when it annexed part of Hillsboro[5], making it one of only two cities in Michigan that have both an urban area (the other being Detroit) and rural areas (the other being Howell).[6] As an Urban Center City, Burton offers many services unavailable outside its boundaries including public safety services such as police officer staffing,[7] waste management,[8] ambulance service[9], trash pickup[10], fire protection[11], parks & recreation[12], healthcare services such as mental health care and addiction treatment programs[13][14][15][16][17][18],[19],[20],[21],[22]; education opportunities through local schools; And much more!

Burton, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 362 at the 2010 census, up from 269 in 2000. It is located on Detroit's east side and is considered to be one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. Burton was founded by Englishman John Burton in 1824 as a small town on the banks of the Ottawa River, near present-day Ottawa Township. The township was named for General James Wilkinson who had commanded British forces during the War of 1812 and who had purchased land within what is now Burton from Native American leaders. For years, Burton functioned as an agricultural center with crops such as corn, beans, and cotton grown until it became known for its glassmaking industry starting in the late 19th century. In 1892, Burton merged with neighboring Cadillac to form what is now called Cadillac City (formally known as Detroit). During World War II, many area residents served in both military services; some were even drafted into the war effort! After liberation from Japan in 1945, many businesses opened up that were destroyed or damaged during World War II including two factories that produced airplane parts for United StatesAAF bombers—the National Rayon Factory (now part of United Motors) west of downtown and Ford Motor Company's Rouge Plant northeast of downtown; both facilities are still standing today! In recent years there has been much development taking place around town including several new shopping malls (including One Financial Center), professional hospitals (deemed necessary by increased healthcare costs), new housing developments such as Park Place condominiums just south of downtown and North Towne Shopping Center just north of Interstate 75; a number of large-brand restaurants have also opened up along Woodward Avenue including Embassy Chinese Restaurant which has received national attention for its sustainability practices; numerous small businesses have closed but are being reincarnated through ventures such as our own Eco-Brewery which produces fresh brewed beer using locally sourced ingredients only!

In 1840, he married Jennie Lewis and moved to Knoxville Township in Macomb County, Michigan.
