Burton, Michigan is a city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing metropolitan area. The first European to visit Burton was John James Audubon in 1827. In 1828, Burton became a town and was platted by David Silliman and others. The town rapidly grew during the 1800s with growth in lumber, mines and agriculture. The original school building was built in 1829 as part of a village platting effort. By 1840, Burton had two blocks of businesses and fifty-four residents. A new school building was completed in 1849 which served until 1922 when it burned down. In 1855, the Town of Burton annexed what were then three other townships: Lima Township (northwest), Wawa Township (southwest) and Huron Township (south). This annexation created what is now the City of Burton from these three villages plus ten square miles (25 km²) of land south of Battle Creek on both sides of I-94 between US 12 and M-2 motorways. Burton experienced rapid growth during World War II as thousandsoved to the war-related industries such as munitions production or shipbuilding on Michipicotter Lake or Mackinac Island Naval Shipyard east of downtown. More than 20% of all burton jobs went into manufacturing during World War II including more than half the output from Mackinac Island Naval Shipyard alone that produced torpedoes for Japan’s Imperial Japanese Navy submarines! Since its incorporation into Detroit Metro government in 2002, Burton has seen strong economic development with job creation outpacing population growth by over 50%. Significant investments have been made in infrastructure such as an expansion to city hall and improved public transportation options such as a new streetcar line connecting downtown with North End via Southgate Drive/Mackinac Island Naval Shipyard Boulevard/I-94 interchange

The Indian Rebellion of 1857 led to an embargo on tea exports from India so that Europeans could get their hands on Indonesian coffee instead. By 1860, about 50% of all beans produced in Indonesia were sent back home for processing into roasted beans for export. However, during World War II Dutch forces occupied Indonesia and this caused a decline in production becauseof the war effort. Coffee production resumed after the war but it has since decreased due to improvements in technology such as enhanced germination and more efficient harvesting techniques. Today, most of the world's coffee is processed in FARGO (Fiji rope) plantations where farmers use water buffalo milk rather than human milk because of its higherquality proteins and lower lactose content which makes it easier for brewers to convert into real espresso drinks without making any additional adjustments

Burton, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo Valley of Michigan that has been around for over 125 years. The community was named after Burton, England, where the first settler, John Burton, came in 1821. The original store and post office were located in what is now the middle of town. The population of Burton was 1,083 at the 2000 census. It peaked at 1,564 in 1988 but has since declined as residents move out and new development takes their place. The average household income is $38,500 according to 2001 census data. Burton is home to the University of Northern Michigan (UNM) which was founded here in 1957 by US President Dwight Eisenhower and his wife Betty Eisenhower. UNM offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines including law, business administration, engineering, education and health sciences. In addition to UNM there are several other colleges and universities within easy reach including: Western Michigan University (WMU), Muskegon Heights Community College (MHCC), Eastern Michigans State University (EMSU), Midland Community College (MCC), Hillsdale Community College (HCC) and Albion Community College (ACC).
Burton, Michigan is a town in the Ottawa County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Burton was first settled by Potawatomi Indians in 1812. A post office called "Burton" was established in 1820, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. The town center was platted around 1830, and named for Richard Burton, an Englishman who had come to America as a missionary. The first school with teachers west of the Mississippi River was founded here in 1834; it continued to operate until 1865. In 1850, a group of settlers led by Jacob Weiser built a log cabin on what is now called State Road 5 near modern day Burton Center. This became their community center and storehouse; it remains standing today and is used as a museum. A school district was organized here in 1858; it continues to operate today (serving students from ages 6-18). In 1861, the first bridge across the Big Sandy River was constructed; this helped increase trade between Burton and Lansing through the river valley. In 1865, Burton became one of five towns within the newly formed Ottawa County when it was created from parts of Wayne and Houghton Counties. The population of Burton peaked at 1,723 during the 1930 census; however, due to World War II demobilization and other factors its population declined rapidly (−60% between 1940 and 1950). The present day figure represents an steady growth (+10%) over the past 10 years
