Airforce Gift History in Burton, Michigan began with the organization of the Air Force Base Museum on October 1, 1948. The museum was established to document and preserve the history of the Air Force Base in Burton. The museum has since grown to include a variety of exhibits and programs related to Air Force culture and history. The first donation to the museum came from Mrs. Harry Baughman on December 3, 1948. Mrs. Baughman donated $1,000 towards the cost of building a new hangar for theBase Museum. The donation was used to purchase new tools and equipment for use atthe Base Museum including an air pressure gauge, a soil test kit, an asbestos detector, and other related items. On July 2nd, 1951 Major General Smedley Butler gave a gift of $5,000 towards construction of a new wing on campus known as “The Butler Wing” which would house fighter aircrafts such as F-4 Phantom IIs and F-105E Strike Eagles. This gift helped finance many expansions that were undertaken at AFB Burton over the years including: A new basketball court (1958), A new football stadium (1975), A new engineering complex(1994), And A brandnew gymnasium(2005). In addition to these projects there have been numerous donations from individuals or organizations who have wanted to help supportthe AFB Burton community or create positive impact within its many facets such as: Alcoholics Anonymous chapter(1980), Camp Hope(1986), Carpe Diem committee (2008), Chain reaction children’s program (2010). With all this collective effort it is clear that AFB Burton has always had great people behind it who are willing do anything in their powerto make sure every individual feels welcomed and appreciated within its walls!
The United States Air Force has a long and rich history of donating goods and services in support of its military members. From providing aircraft and engines to the purchase of missiles, the USAF has donated many items over the years in order to support airmen on active duty and their families. One such donation was the acquisition of a powerful Airbus A320 family jet transport aircraft known as C-130J Hercules. The C-130J is an all-new model that was designed specifically for transporting troops and supplies in Afghanistan. The plane is equipped with several capabilities that make it ideal for this purpose, such as a large cargo area that can accommodate up to 45 tons of cargo, high speed capabilities, and armor protection against ground attack. The United States Air Force also donated two Boeing 747s which were used as troop transports during Operation Neptune’s Spear. These planes were specially modified with increased capacity so they could carry more passengers and freight than any other airliner at the time. This donation allowed NATO forces to move millions of pounds of supplies and equipment into Afghanistan without having to worry about enemy fire or damage.
The Burton Air Force Base gift history goes back to World War II when the air force purchased an old bomber from a local plane manufacturer. The bomber was renamed the B-24 Liberator and used by the air force until it was retired in the early 1960s. In 1978, the air force gifted a new Liberator jet fighter jet to Burton AFB as part of their 50th anniversary celebration. The jet has been used by the base ever since and is currently stored on site. In 1984, the air force gifted a Boeing 747 Airliner as part of their 90th anniversary celebration. The present day gift history at Burton AFB includes several jets and helicopters, as well as numerous other items such as computers, tools, furnishings, vehicles and more.
Burton is a small city in Michigan, United States. The population was 4,564 at the 2010 census. It is located in southern Kalamazoo County on the shore of Lake Huron. In 1846, the village became a town and was renamed after General George Washington Carver (1797-1863). The post office was established here in 1852 and remained open until it be closed by USPS in 1963. Burton has been called "Thebirthplaceofindustrialism." In 1907, Dodge Motors Corporation established its operations here including the manufacture of automobiles and trucks before moving to Flint in 1962. In 1966, Ford Motor Company opened its plant here for production of cars and trucks before moving to Dearborn Heights in 1978. GM followed suit with their Lansing plant opening in 1984 before selling their manufacturing operation to Opel AG which operated it until 1998 when it closed down due to economic problems within Europe. Pontiac moved from Detroit to build their new car factory here from 2001-2004 but this venture failed and they relocating back to Detroit eventually becoming just another Automotive manufacturer among many others that have passed through this area over time... leaving only an abandoned shopping center now known as Burton Place mall which still functions as an industrial complex today!

As a result of this tragedy, Congress enacted the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which blamed North Vietnam for starting the fire that caused the USS Maddox to sunk in 1967. This event increased public pressure on America to improve its military capabilities in order to prevent further civilian deaths. In 1971, President Nixon ordered Operation Eagle Claw which resulted in more than seventy-five thousand Vietnamese civilians being killed during an aborted attempt by U.S. Marines to force an end to North Vietnam’s National Liberation Front (NLF) insurgency. This act helped increase popular support for American involvement in South Viet Nam and contributed to Nixon’s reelection victory two years later. Now that America is engaged in another combat mission overseas, it is important that gift history be preserved for future generations who may have access to this powerful tool of warfare. On Sept. 1, 1941, the U.S. Air Force was created as a separate branch of the military in order to provide aerial support for Allied forces during World War II. The first gift from the USAF was an airplane, which was gifted to General George C. Marshall by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Nov. 12, 1941. On Dec. 2, 1941, the United StatesAAF placed an order for two more planes and gave them to RAF Bomber Command in exchange for trainer planes used by American pilots flying against Nazi Germany’s air force throughout the war. In 1945, when Japan surrendered and its Emperor was executed after being convicted of war crimes, the USAF delivered approximately 50 planes to Japan in return for surrendering aircraft and other materials used by Japanese pilots during their campaigns against America and Europe during that time period. As part of the post-war reconstruction effort in Japan following World War II, additional gifts were given to the USAF from various members of Congress including Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Neb.) who offered $5 million towards purchase of new transports for use by postwar U SAAF units; Representative Floyd McKee (R-Okla.), who donated funds earmarked for purchasing fighter aircraft; Admiral Emory Halsey (USMC) who contributed money towards construction of a naval air facility at Yokosuka Naval Base; and Mrs.] Eleanor Roosevelt who presented a model T-34A Thunderbolt jetfighter aircraft worth $1 million to be used by postwar USAF units stationed overseas with NATO partners such as France and West Germany.]

The village developed slowly until the mid-20th century, when it experienced an explosive growth due to its location on the western edge of the Iron Range National Park. By 1970, Burton had reached its pre-World War II peak population size with over 10,000 residents. However, during the late 20th century and early 21st century, Burton's population began to decline as a result of various factors including suburbanization and changes in local government. Today, Burton remains a primarily rural community located within Michigan's Great Lakes region.
