Military gift history in Ann Arbor, Michigan begins with the city of Ann Arbor itself. On November 3rd, 1814, the first military gift to be given to the city was a cannonball donated by Major General George Washington. The donation was in memory of Captain John Smith who had died during the War of 1812. The city continued to give gifts in memory of military service members throughout the years. One such gift was a cannonballs donated by General Anthony Wayne on December 12th, 1837. This cannons ball was dedicated in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Prentice and his horse “Hercules” which died while helping United States troops at Battle Creek in India. On October 10th, 1916, the first military uniform ever given to Ann Arbor was given to an enlisted man named James Auld from Company K2/7th Cavalry Regiment stationed at Camp Woodbury near downtown Ann Arbor. The cost for this jacket and pants was $1 were worth $30 today. On July 1st, 1942, the city gave another gift to its citizens when it gifted two B-24 bombers along with their parts and tools for rebuilding them back into operational planes known as “Doolittle” flights. These planes were used as trainers for new pilots during World War II and are still preserved today inside Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton Ohio where they can be seen on display every day!

Ann Arbor is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 673,569 as of 2018, making it the second most populous city in Michigan after Detroit. The first permanent settler in what is now Ann Arbor was Nicholas Musick, who arrived on a small boat from England in 1795. He founded the town of Muskegon in 1824 and named it for himself, after his home country of England. In 1837, he sold his holdings to John Semenovitz, who made Ann Arbor the county seat of Washtenaw County. By 1850, settlers had built churches and schools in what is now downtown Ann Arbor; at that time there were only a few houses scattered around the area below Woodward Street. In 1868, John Denny founded the companytown of Ypsilanti which became one of Michigan's largest industrial towns with its own water system and mills.. Denny's mill produced flour for local markets as well as items such as cigars, cigarettes and shoes for American soldiers during World War II. From 1955 until 1984, Ypsilanti was served by its own television station WXYZ-TV (channel 7). In 1984, WXYZ-TV became part of CBS Corporation when that company took over operations of all CBS stations throughoutMichigan including Ypsilanti; however WXYZ still remains an independent station today with its own transmitter located atop Mount Pleasant outside Ann Arbor . During World War II many industries closed down due to wartime shortages: butch cattle ranchers used ANN ARBOR cattle feedlots on State Road 9 north between I-94 and US-26 while war Production Works were opened at nearby Mackinac Island to process aluminum cans; waffle iron maker National Electric Manufacturing Co., Inc.; leather shoe manufacturer Hennepin Leather Corp.; ice cream freezer Crystal Palace Creamery & Confectionery Co.; paper towel producer United Paper Towels CO., Inc.; carpenter King Cole Carpentry CO.,Inc.). However more than two decades later Chrysler Corporation reopened production at their old Dodge Dart plant on Mackinac Island using new technology; this event helped lead to the resurgence of economy within Ann Arbor during those years despite some layoffs recently announced by Henry Ford Motor Company consequent upon their decision not to renew their lease on campus following allegations that they employed undocumented workers .
