The Army has been in Alpena, Michigan since 1882. The first troops arrived in the town on December 12th of that year and were given the name “Masonic militiamen”. At first, there were a small number of soldiers and officers stationed here, but over time it grew to become one of the most important military installations in the area. Today, Alpena is home to more than 4,000 active duty members of the United States Army and their families. The Alpena Army Depot was established in 1907 as the Alpena Arsenal. It served as a military munitions and equipment depot until it closed in 1973. The site is now a park.
Alpena is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 16,569 at the 2010 census, down from 17,871 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Alpena County and the second largest city in Huron County after Detroit. The first permanent settler in what would become Alpena was Nicholas Kapp of Green Bay, Wisconsin on July 4, 1824. He named it "Kapp's Landing" after himself and his family. In 1827 John Fenton purchased 640 acres (260 hectares) of land north of Alpena from Nicholas Kapp for $10 per acre ($2 million today). They named their new town Fenton Township which grew quickly as other settlers arrived seeking cheap land to settle near water supplies and railroads. In 1832 Indiana-born George Prentice purchased 560 acres (240 hectares) just east of present day Alpena from John Fenton for $15 per acre ($3 million today). He founded Prenticeville on this property and naming it after himself - George Prenticeburg or GPPB for short. The township rapidly grew with others arriving until by 1840 there were over 1,000 residents in GPPB alone! By 1850, most residents had moved away to farmsteads scattered around what is now downtown Alpena due to protests against slavery by nearby farmers who wanted freed slaves brought to work on their farms instead! During the American Civil War local Unionists sided with Confederate General Robert Ewart Grant while most locals supported the Union cause throughout that conflict including providing food and munitions to its forces during Battle of Antietam on July 16th 1861 when nearly 60% of all businesses in Alpena closed because support for General Grant meant business was Impossible without war income! Afterwards many residents returned home but some families still maintained a presence until well into the 20th century; examples include descendants of early settlers like Mrs James Haggerty who still reside in downtown Alpena today! A group consisting mostly high school seniors convened by then Mayor Tom Carr called themselves "The Downtown Boys" dated back to 1959 when they erected an old truck stop along State Street between Main Street and Third Avenue known as "The Bucket Shop." That same year they also established a store own barbershop/dentist Office between Spring Street and Fourth Avenue known as "The Barber Shop." With time more people started moving into town so original slogans such as "Downtown All Day Long!" turned into reality; becoming an unofficial motto for much later years! Alpinia has seen various growth rates over its history with populations hitting 10k+ each decade since 1800s; however during current times there has been significant decline (-14%) due mainly to demographics being evenly split among 3 wards: 2 African American (one percent), Hispanic (%1%), White (%98%). This causes one factor leading to overall negative economic conditions which have led directly or indirectly – through gangs & drugs – adversely affecting community services such as healthcare (health clinics having closure rate above 50%); education opportunities are limited (& extremely costly); crime rates remain high despite efforts by police department; generational poverty exists& continues ↑↑ With all these issues & concerns increasingly looming larger every day it’s clear why City Council placed moratorium on annexation resolution last week ↓↓

Alpena is a small city in Michigan, located in Genesee County. The population was 5,708 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing-Warren-Cheboygan, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Alpena is one of the oldest villages in Michigan, and its history goes back to 1795 when it was settled by German immigrants. The name "Alpena" comes from Alpnach (ahl-Pahhyn), meaning "high mountain." The first permanent settlement in what is now Alpena occurred in 1795 when a group of Germans arrived on horseback from Germany and established a farm near present day downtown. By 1834, the village had grown sufficiently to incorporate as a town under the name of "Alpena". Through hard work and thrifty living, Alpena achieved an excellent reputation for its agricultural products - grapes were especially well known. In 1892, local businessman George Hennepin leased 3 million acres (13 km²) of federal land east of Toronto to become Mackinac Land Company which later became Mackinac Island Corporation. This acquisition made possible much development within the limits of present day Alpena – such as the construction of both the First National Bank building (now used as apartments) and Michigan State University's Technical College Building (later home to Eastern Michigan University). On July 1st 1907, following ratification by voters in all three townships that constituted Alpena Township including parts lying north and west suburban Detroit Heights - forming what would today be considered Southeast Lansing - township trustees met at Masonic Hall to pass resolutions ratifying changes made by state constitution Revision Commission recommendations that created Macomb Township with same boundaries but different name effective November 1st 1906; thus giving rise to current day southeastern Lansing include most or all portions lying south side streets between Huron River & 12 Mile Road beyond 12 Mile Road extending into Ottawa County long before any organized business existed thereabouts! An interesting footnote about this event: James Prentice who served as township trustee from 1905 until his death suddenly resigned early one morning after apparently learning about revisions being made regarding township boundaries; he was succeeded by his brother John who remained on board until Oak Park Boroughhood referendum resulted in loss for boroughhood on December 2nd 1912 which effectively ended organization of Township Trustees & succession charges against him
Alpena, Michigan was founded in 1837 by John D. Rockefeller. The community became a railroad town and then a major manufacturing center during the early years of the 20th century. In the 1930s, Alpena lost its main industry to World War II and experienced some social unrest. However, over time it has regained some of its former prominence as an industrial city with a strong cultural heritage.
