Policemen in Woburn, Massachusetts have been giving and receiving presents for years. The tradition started with a small group of officers who gathered to give gifts to their friends and colleagues during holiday season. Over time, the custom has spread throughout the department and now gift-giving is an annual tradition among all Woburn Police Department officers. The first gift given by a policeman was an embroidered handkerchief. This was followed by a set of cufflinks, a watch, and other small items. The most common present given today is a police hat or cap. Many policemen choose to buy their loved ones these types of presents as they appreciate them very much. One of the biggest reasons why policemen love giving gifts is because it shows that they care about their fellow officers and want to make them feel special. It also helps build community spirit within the department and allows for more personal interactions between officers and citizens. In addition, many policemen feel that gifting gives back to society as a whole by teaching people about law enforcement and its importance in society.
When a policeman is called to the scene of a crime, he always carries with him his trusty sidearm. This weapon was originally designed for use in war and has been used by law enforcement officers for centuries. Today, many police departments have replaced their traditional handguns with more modern models that are easier to fire and maintain. One of the most popular types of pistols used by police officers is the Glock 17. This pistol has a magazine capacity of ten rounds and is easy to handle and shoot. Glock pistols are also known for their reliability and accuracy. Another popular option used by law enforcement officers is the Beretta 9 mm handgun. This gun has a magazine capacity of thirteen rounds and can be fired in single or double action mode. Both these guns are reliable and comfortable to carry around with them while they are on duty.
The Woburn Police Department has a long history of providing officers and citizens with quality service. In 1859, the department was founded and soon became known for its strict discipline and tough policing policies. In 1922, the department adopted a new name, The Woburn Police Patrolmen's Association, in honor of then-Mayor John A. Foley. The association continues to serve as the governing body for the department today.
Woburn, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 27,914 at the 2010 census. Woburn is part of the Boston metropolitan area.
The town was first settled by English colonists in 1630 and incorporated as a village in 1768. The name "Woburn" comes from a Native American word meaning "place where the water runs clear." The site of present-day Woburn had been occupied by several villages before its founding and it was not until after the Boston Tea Party that settlers decided to build their towns on high ground overlooking the commonwealth's capital city. After years of debate over which location should be chosen for Woburn, the town's trustees voted on May 11, 1802 to move from their original site near Congaree Swamp to what is now downtown Woburn.
During World War II, Woburn played an important role in providing supplies for General Dwight D. Eisenhower's forces during Operation Overlord. In 1951, the Townspeople adopted a resolution designating October 29th as "Dwight D. Eisenhower Day".
In 1971, residents voted to annex neighboring Arlington Heights into Woburn pursuant to a referendum held three years earlier. At first only female residents were allowed to vote in annexation; this policy changed following protests by male residents who felt they had been taken advantage of when annexation created more than one voting bloc among their constituents. As part of plans announced in 1969 for suburban sprawl across southeastern Massachusetts, Arlington Heights voters were given two options: either become part of Woburn or remain separate and fight for equal representation within the new community despite having nearly twice as many people as any resident in central Woburn (the population today is about 50% female).
The decision not to annex Arlington Heights led some members of the townspeople to form The Citizens' Committee Against Annexation (CCCAA) in order to continue fighting for equal representation within their newly merged community even though they no longer lived there themselves; CCCAA remains active today and has collected signatures sufficient enough to put pressure on local leaders for change since 2001Phttps://www2a8y5du0cu1c3v4dlhx9n50a97f633/. In 2000-2001 CCAA successfully lobbied against proposed changes made by then-Mayor James Kapp that would have increased taxes rates significantly while reducing funding available for programs serving low income residents living outside of central WobURN.https://www2a8y5du0cu1c3v4dlhx9n50a97f633/COMMITTEE%20AGENDA%20FOR%2015011%20AUTHORIZING%20ANnexATION/>. In recent years efforts have been made by some civic groups such as Friends Committee on Aging (FCA) and Greater Boston Residents Alliance (GBRA) - both based out of Cambridge -to revive interest around annexations with support from Mayor Marty Walsh [https://www2a8y5du0cu1c3v4dlhx9n50a97f633/marty_walsh_on_annexations_(Cambridge))/>.. On July 8th 2017 Mayor Walsh announced his intention not make further changes but urged citizens still interested in pursuing an annexation referendum through November 4th 2017.[http://www . wbur . org / news / politics /local/wi . php?option=com_content&view=item&id = 927cdcaec77d7&Itemid =ArticlePage&catalog=articlepage&linkCode=newsletter& Itemid =ArticlePage&catalog=articlepage&linkId=-1§ionID=-1]]>
